Back when I couldn't get in without creating a new blog, I posted this under a different persona. I write a weekly devotional about once every six weeks and this was one.
The difference a day makes
Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
James 4: 13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that."
Isn't it amazing how your life can be redefined in one moment? My friend did not dream one sunny morning when he woke up that he would be spending the next month in the hospital watching his 15 month old daughter fight for her life. He found her face down in the goldfish pond not breathing. They revived her, airlifted her to a children’s hospital in Ohio and she is facing a very slow recovery process. We claim nothing less than complete healing for Anna; however every part of their life is changed and will be forever. What they thought was important, what they were going to do next week, next month, and next year, all changed in one moment of time. Please pray for her. You can follow her progress by a series of daily blogs including photos and a video at Thoughts.com. Her name is Anna Grylls and we specifically need prayer for her suck, gag, cough and swallow reflex to return.
This tragedy is a graphic reminder to take a hard look at your priorities. Are you spending the time with your family that you should? Are your outside interests taking the time that your family needs from you? How about your time with God? The hospital is amazed at the Grylls’ strength and faith. They are praying with other families and being a blessing for everyone around them. That is because they have spent the time with God necessary to cement their faith no matter what the circumstances around them are. That is important. Hopefully you will never face something as tragic in your life as they are going through, but if you do, do you know where to turn?
