Of all the seasons in the year, Fall is my favorite as it is not needy as the others.
It only wishes to dazzle us with the brilliance of its colors and lull us to sleep with its cool, gentle nights that sweep in through an open window.
Fall has the ability to take us by the hand and ease us into the cold of winter. Little by little it prepares us by little teases of cold then rewarding us with the warmth of an Indian Summer.
You see, Spring is needy. Planting gardens, blooming trees that cause the eyes to water and the nose to sneeze. Preparing the yard for another season of trimming and manicuring. Needy..so needy.
Summer is needy. Tending to gardens, outdoor activities, humidity and heat, pools that need cleaning....very needy indeed.
Winter is needy as well with the cold and snow and ice. Scraping windshields, shoveling snow, taking twice as long to get ready for leaving the comfort of the house. Snow boots, heavy coats, gloves, winter hats that cover the entire face. Ohhhhhhhhh...I hate you Winter.
Fall...the least needy of all. The air is crisp and clean. The sky is bluer and cleaner than any other time of the year. Leaves turn golden and hypnotize you to take notice of their dance that takes place gradually and carefully as to not rush the process.
Yes, give me a fall day and a fall night and all is right in the world.
