Day 1: My Ass Hurts

Long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away (well not so long ago and not really in another galaxy), we left the shores of the USA, heading west for Australia. Of course, since this is my family vacation, it is not without incident. My wife, Alice, rolled her luggage over her toe, cracking her nail. (And we hadn't even left our bedroom.). There was some wincing and some blood. (It reminded me of our honeymoon, when I lost the nail of my right big toe. But that's a story for another time.). Arriving in LA was also not without incident. Continental Airlines was thoughtful enough to remove one of the four wheels from my brand new luggage, thereby lightening the load. At least they didn't lose it.

The flight on Qantas was really long. But they kept feeding us. (Nothing makes you feel more "fit" than eating and sitting for long periods of time.) It was like an exceptionally boring Bar Mitzvah (hmm, that may be redundant) that never ended. I kept waiting for the band to play Last Dance so I could give someone a check and finally leave. Actually, the flight wasn't that bad. Only 1 screenplay, 4 movies, 6 CDs, 1 newspaper, perusal of the 2007 Avanti owners roster and 427 quick games of solitaire and we arrived in Sydney. I assume that, some day, the feeling will return to my ass and legs. And what better way to end a long journey than to discover that one of our bags (Alice's) was left in LA, but scheduled to arrive the following morning. And it's raining.
