| Governor Huckabee used by developer |
|
I have mixed feelings about whether to vote for Gov. Huckabee after he appeared to be in bed with the developers at the Cliffs Valley yesterday. Until yesterday I was planning to vote for the governor in Saturdays' primary in South Carolina, but until I can be convinced that he is not a patsy for the Cliffs Communities, I may very well support another candidate.
Jim Anthony and the Cliffs' used the governor for the purposes of their slick spin machine by having the governor receive endorsement from BASS ,which is reportedly the largest fishing organization in the world, while on the golf course. While the governor probably raised a lot of money from the wealthy few at this invitation only event, it probably cost him a lot of votes from the nearby community. Most of the locals who have lived in the area for generations do not consider the Cliffs to be good neighbors.
I hope someone will set the unsuspecting governor straight about the terrible disdain for the environment that the Cliffs' demonstrates by their plans to dump 175,00 gallons of sewage a day into the trout stream known as the North Saluda River. Their plans for as many as eight golf courses in the area will destroy vast amounts of wildlife habitat that is rapidly vanishing and irreplaceable. I would have to describe Jim Anthony and the Cliffs Communities in the words of native American Indians. They speak with forked tongues.
All the while that they present themselves as environmentally rich, they are planning to destroy more pristine wilderness, wildlife habitat, and streams than 100 shopping malls and a freeway. I very strongly advise you to get a copy of the last two issues of the Travelers Rest, Berea and Blue Ridge Monitor (in northern Greenville County, SC) for more background on the whole sordid conspiracy to desecrate most of the Blue Ridge Mountains between Asheville, North Carolina and Greenville, South Carolina.
That is according to their very own web site. They use flowery language about being “in the cradle of the Carolina Preserve (which is not in any way an official government protected area, but is a marketing term used by the Cliffs) - a cultural, environmentally, and economically rich corridor“. That may have been so before the Cliffs arrived, but there will surely be very little of it left if they carry out all of their plans.
