Your Dreams will keep you young

The Dreams In your heart will keep you young

No one wants to get old; every one wants to be young and vibrant. Being young is in, growing old is out. And why shouldn’t it be, because we are as old as we think we are and just as young as we think we are. It’s a matter of what is inside of our mind, heart and spirit. We must keep in mind that it is not the numbers that make us old, they will continue through eternity, and that is a good thing. Our physical bodies will grow old in age, but your body is not who you are. Your body does not define your spiritual being. You are who you think you are and just as young are as old as you think you are.

Emerson once wrote, “We do not count a man’s years until he has nothing else to count.” My Dad is 90 years old and still going strong. This past weekend we debated the politics of the world for hours. My Dad loves politics and he is still a very skill debater. He stays young by continuing to grow. You see my Dad knows the key to youthful living. That is, you do not grow old; you become old by not growing.

God gives us dreams, and because of our age we put those dreams aside and say to ourselves, I can’t do that because I am way past the age for involving myself in such things. In the Bible we see that Sarah was way past her so call child bearing age, and with much doubt in her mind after God told her that she was going to have a baby in her late 90’s, she laugh at God. But God had the last laugh. Sarah and Abraham had the baby that God promised them. You see, nothing is too hard for God if only you believe. God said that if you had the faith of a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mountain to get up and jump into the sea and it would be done.

Faith is the key that unlocks all your dreams of hope in the youthful life that lies ahead that God has provided for you. Staying stuck in yesterday dreams is not an option for those who want to maintain a healthy life style and not grow old in heart.

Slowing the aging process in your life is up to you. There are many things you can do if only you would take the time to involve yourself in the joy and not the sorrows of life. Start by maintaining a cheerful attitude. Keep this verse from Proverbs in mind: “A merry heart doeth good like medicine, but a broken spirit drieth up the bones.”

You can stay young like my Dad, by keeping your mind alive and alert. Scientists have found that the ability to think does not decline with advancing age; the only difference may be a slight decrease in the speed of thinking.

You can stay young by forcing your mind out of old ruts. Remember that beaten paths are for beaten people. See new places, read new books, try new hobbies. Increase the depth of your life.

You can stay young by keeping your heart young. “If it can be done,” wrote the poet, Carl Sandburg, “it is not a bad practice for a man of many years to die with a boy heart.” This list can go on and on. But I will conclude with this one last thought, and that is, you can stay young simply by knowing this most important fact, “They who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.”
