Happy Fourth of July Toy Soldiers
There is a new shop but a few doors down from the Apple Store in Los Gatos.  I have been watching this store front evolve, as a new retailer sedulously and with meticulous planning and diligence worked towards the advertised goal of opening on July 1st.  Workers have come and gone as scheduled, and once I even caught sight of the owner, intent on putting together a display, and making sure it all occurred just right.

The Sierra Toy Soldiers marched into the marketplace on July 1st as planned.

This is an unusual player in a niche market of upscale hobbyist merchandise, elaborately detailed and capitalized.  The store itself is a gem, but you can see that it above all else a labor of love.  Los Gatos can afford to indulge many such boutiques, which add to its village-like charms.  One of these days I know I will venture within, enraptured like a little boy again.

It's just as well they don't sell Corgi and Dinky cars -- I'd be even more broke than I am now, or smitten with an insane desire to raise the money by any means necessary so I could replace all the childhood toys I'd lost, damaged, or simply scratched too much through loving play to put upon a shelf.

JUST IN TIME FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY

AHH, THERE IT IS, READY TO DEFEND ONE OF MY FAVORITE PARCHMENTS

Man, those one dollar bags of green army men were some of the most memorable toys I had. I played with those things for hours.

So did my brother John (who later became an ardent pacifist ;). This is what happens to boys and girls who grow up to have deep pockets and an even deeper love of playing with army men (and painting them, and staging them, and collecting them, and researching them, and never, ever parting with them).

I suspect when I do wonder in, I will be there awhile myself. I must make sure not to visit it on my way into work, but at some time when I am free for the afternoon.

Fair is fair - you woj (you cheated) but you won - have a great what ever day - ha ha - Your Brother - Puck

lol, Brother Puck, if you glance over the other blog for the Fourth, you'll see an excerpt from a letter John Adams wrote his wife Abigail about how in years to come the, er, 2nd would be celebrated. So, yes, "what ever day" indeed.

We did fight dirty. It always makes me think of how the North Vietnamese did the same thing to us, and how the Afghans repelled the Soviets. ;)

I don't think I'll be doing much celebrating today. I'm quite sleepy now, and have to get back to work in eight hours... The fireworks will have to be on YouTube this year.

Thank you Lola! Hey, that looks a lot less abstract. Now I just need my magnifier to get a better glimpse! ;) Happy Fourth to you as well (belatedly).

From one of the family members who owns the store to me via Facebook:

"David Thank you for your interest in Sierra we do have a fan page called sierra toy soldier company. The blog you wrote about us was great. Thank you BTW we do have Dinky and Corgi in the store"
