| PUT THE GUN DOWN, MIKE!! |
This morning, I found this post on my Facebook page, from Michael - responding to the Tea Party march on Washington last Sunday, Sept. 13:
“These people are just plain scary and pose a greater threat to America than anything else I can identify. IGNORANT is a kind adjective for them. When a person is so angry and vehement against something they can't define, that's my definition of insanity. I think I'm going to clean my rifle now!”
Michael, put the rifle back in the gun closet and stop and think! The organizers and strategists of the far right have done a beautiful job of organizing this anarchy. With threatening total government control of health (a lie), death squads who will determine which persons of advanced age will die and when (a lie), the total inability to choose and/or keep the physician (or insurance carruer) with whom they've built a long-time relationship (a lie), everyone will be forced to buy health insurance (a lie), the far right has turned seniors and older baby boomers into robots who spew the party line - regardless of the total lack of truth. Robots who will not find the truth for themselves, but rely on "cheat sheets" from organizers for the clamor of the day.
These bottom feeding strategists, organizers, and talking heads have turned seniors and older baby boomers into yelling, screaming mobs that threaten anarchy instead of a reasoned approach to fix a health care system that is close to falling apart.
Consider, Michael, where many of these same persons, who react such anomosity above, get their major health care. Think about it. Medicare and Medicaid are programs totally run by the government! Not all seniors can select their own physicians and care givers even today -- all the doctor has to do is not accept Medicare assignments and the patients are on the steets looking for caregivers. Seniors can't afford to die today if they rely on Medicare -- darn if the death benefit isn't less than $300.
The cacophany of the crowds in the streets last weekend is really the death rattle of real conservatism. Instead we have to deal with so-called neo-conservatives. These erzatz onservatiive leaders today are little more than hustlers and talking heads who, with their noise and drivel, confuse activity for achievement. Gone are the great intellectuals of conservatism of old: Edmund Burke, William F. Buckley, Jr., Gary Wills, and others. The movement has degenerated to such a subterranean level that mental midgets as Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, and others, are the movements icons! And, GOP leaders are in lockstep with it all.
Now is not the time to topple government - it's time for each of us back and consider, with reason, the actions that must be taken and work hard to achieve the common goal of decent health care. Care that will at least BEGIN to address the needs of more than 48 million of our countrymen who, with their families, can't afford ANY protection. (And that number increases by almost one million additional people EACH TIME profit-guided insurance carriers put even a minor premium increase into effect)
George Orwell wrote, "In time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." Michael, join the patriots who find the facts (not emotions, or words from talking heads with midget intellects, or from organization who haven't the courage to disclose their leadership and philosophy) and begin to spread the truth.
The hard work of finding the truth will get this counttry back on track - to a point where you won't even have to think about your rifle.
