Cody Hutchings was killed.He suffered more than 160 bruises, two separate skull fractures, tears to his liver and damage to other internal organs.
No, Cody Hutchings was not a soldier serving in Iraq; he was not a football hero.
Cody Hutchings was a five year old boy.
The injuries were caused by routine beatings received from his mother's fiance, Stuart John McMaster. McMaster received the glorious sentence of 13 years with a non-parole period of 10 years (which probably means he will be out in 3).
I have tried hard, prior to writing this, to imagine myself causing this damage to my children, to try and get inside this animal’s head, but I can’t get past seeing their smiling faces. How could someone possibly do this?
The sentence handed down by Judge David Harper was, in my opinion severely lacking. It seems that the courts look at the size of the victim and sentence accordingly. (I would really like to see short sentences in general population for animals such as this – see them really suffer).
Truly this was a gross miscarriage of justice. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the judge handed down the appropriate sentence under the current laws and would have been as disgusted by this senseless violence as the rest of us are but if you look closely there is more to this than violence. The little boy would have been terrified. Why then are animals such as this not charged as terrorists? We are currently fighting a ‘war on terror’ yet that which we are fighting, when not actioned by a recognized terrorist group, is looked upon as a minor offence, almost on the same level as jaywalking. Why do we concentrate only on the Muslim communities for terrorists when there are others walking amongst us?
My thoughts are with the family of this little boy.

People that can do this and think nothing of it completely disgust me. And should be locked away forever for what they did. He should get a life sentence. There is no difference of him slowly killing this boy. Than a murderer killing in cold blood.
