CNN Presents: Black in America hosted by Soledad O'Brien. The show was segmented by two subjects (really three) "The Black Woman & Family" &"The Black Man". I have been hearing responses to the documentary (DOC) and so far I do not like what I am hearing. This morning on on a local radio station (Power 98) a few callers were confused about what to take from the DOC? what??? One of the callers said that he took two different things from the (DOC) that ; the system is to blame and we are to blame. I love this callers honesty, because I am sure a great deal of our youth also have a conflicting view of why things are the way they are.
To find help with this issue I turn to the bible. Yes, the bible. The bible is the most misunderstood book in the history of mankind. Why??? Because the Bible has two meanings. First, is the letter, which is what you see. There are a great number of people who can "give you a verse to stand on" or rattle off serveral verses. The second one is my favorite, the Spirit of the text. So few people understand the spirit in whict the text is coming from. For example, if open a book and tell you about chapter 5, that sound s good asnd looks good but what about chapters 1-4 that lead up to 5?????? Do you throw the baby out with the bath water?????? Or are we trying to make a point to show others our Holy knowledge? The world may never know. But this is at the heart of the issue with the caller this morning. He didn't know rather to get emotional about the numbers that he observed or the story that was being told. The truth is..... it should have been both. We can not blame everyone for our problems ,but at the same token we have to understand the reasons why. A balancing act to say the least. The old african proverb says "Each one, Teach one" that is the only way we will make any progress. Remember youa re blessed to bless someone else ( and they do not have to be in your church) |
