Many of us seek guidance and direction from God, wishing He would just make it all clear. In Psalm 23 King David pens the all familiar verse, "His rod and His staff they comfort me." I have been referring to God's use of the rod or staff as tapping tool to get our attention. Sort of like when a young obnoxious child keeps tapping a parent or whoever, on the shoulder, leg, or whatever body part is closest to get the attention of that person. I think it's more of a rare occurrence for people to have divine revelations about their destiny and find guidance in spectacular ways. Yes, there are instances of such divine appointments in the Bible, but there are many more instances where no such lightening bold occurred. Divine nudges and holy taps seem to be more common. Sheep get to know their shepherd very well and can discern that rod tapping them to move on or go here. Perhaps we just need to spend more time with God and less time trying to get answers from Him. Perhaps His direction and His answers to our life are coming in taps. Perhaps He is near enough to tap and has no need to send a lightening bolt from the heavens. Whatever the case, God's guidance is provided as the Psalm attests:
He is my shepherd, He makes me lie down, He leads me, He guides me in the paths of righteousness, I fear no evil for He is with me, His rod and staff comfort me, His goodness and lovingkindness follow me all my days, and I will dwell in His house forever.
