 *mad face*
So last night we watched this news special thingy about this woman who had 4 kids, and was dating this guy that started to get controlling. She broke up with him but he started to stalk her. He would show up at her kid's sporting events at school, just to freak her out. So one day, he bursts through her front door with two butcher knives and tries to kill her. He ended up just hitting her but it was enough for her to get a "no contact" order through the courts. After he is told specifically not to have ANY contact, direct or indirect with her or her children, he shows up at the oldest daughters volleyball game. By the time the cops get there, he's gone. Eventhough he broke the law, the cops would NOT go across state lines (eventhough they had the power to) to arrest him at his home. A few weeks later, the guy broke into the woman's house in the middle of the night and shot her and her boyfriend. He had always said he was going to take her life and then his own, but... they ended up arresting him because he had enough gumption to kill two innocent people, but not enough to kill himself.

What's so upsetting is that, when someone is being harrassed, threatened, scared half to death by a stalker... so many times, the person being stalked feels alone, like there's no help, like they're on their own to protect themselves and their families. No matter how much this woman told the police that this guy was determined to kill her, she just got a "You'll be okay" response.

I've been through something scary with an ex. I, too, felt like there was nothing I could do. No one could protect me. Calling the police got me nowhere. Only if he were to show up and actually physically harm me... would they even start to look into it.

My question is, why do we have to wait until something horrible happens, to take any kind of action? An abused/stalked woman is basically treated as bait, left out there unprotected until some sick-o bites. Only then, when it is perhaps too late, does the situation warrant the use of government funds.

Is there just so many threats being thrown around out there that law enforcement can't take anything seriously anymore? What's with people? Why so much anger? What is the POINT in harming a fellow human being? Not only do you tromp on another's human rights... but, you make the world you live in just another degree colder.

Sorry this was so long. I had to rant.

Some things.... can really just make a girl sick. =/
