 Falling for Cate (a webnovel)
This is my very first webnovel posted in 2002. I got a some help from two of my friends Jayson and Neslie. Both encouraged me to write this. Read on... :)

Chapter 1
It's seven in the morning and Cate is waiting for one of those fx taxis to pass by so she can get to work. At last, one stopped and she got in the back. She's counting the minutes 'till she reached the office. Unfortunately, heavy traffic became a nuisance. Cate kept glancing at her watch…

"I'm gonna be late!" she thought to herself. She picked up her cellphone and started texting her partner Josh. She can picture his face if he finds out he's gonna start the program alone. As she was doing this she noticed that the man beside her is taking a peek at what she's typing. She gave him an annoying look and went back to what she's doing. She suddenly heard the man chuckle, she turned to him and said
"What is your problem?"
"Nothing…it's just that you look like you're about to murder someone because of this traffic," he said and flashed her a nice smile.
"Weird isn't it? I have lived here all my life and I still haven't gotten used to the traffic. It's as normal as having coffee in the morning," she replied, now chuckling herself.
"God, this seems to be taking forever, the stranger muses. "Anyway, where do you get off?"
"Strata 200," Cate answered.
"Me too," he said smiling again, "You know commuting also has it's advantages."
"Advantages? Are you ok?" said Cate
"Yeah, 'cause driving is so tiring...especially with heavy traffic like this!" he explained. "Oh I don't think I've introduced myself, I'm Miguel…and you are?"
"Cate," she said and shook his hand.

Cate was almost an hour late, she rushes to the booth panting and out of breath. Josh looked up from the consul and gave her an annoyed scowl. He went for a commercial break, took off his headset and started firing complaints.
"You told me you'll be here early!" he said.
"Sorry…I got stuck in traffic, ok? I texted you, didn't you get it?" she pointed out.
"I got told off by Nick, you know? Airing is 8am!" Josh continued to fume
"Please let's get this over with," she said…she give up, there's no point for the argument to continue.
They carried on with their program and by lunch time, Josh was in a better mood and told her he'll treat her to lunch. Josh is feeling generous so they went to TGI Fridays, where most of their other co-dj hang-out (if they have the money, that is).
"So, whatever possessed you to treat me to lunch today? Earlier you wanted to murder me," Cate said.
"It's in the past…forget it," he said. "It ain't your fault."
"Cate?" a male voice said.
Cate turned around and saw Miguel , the guy at the fx.
"Hi!" she smiled back and Josh cleared his throat. "Oh, um…Miguel this is Josh, my colleague. Josh this is Miguel, I met him this morning."
"Nice to meet you," Josh stood up and shook Miguel's hand.
"Same here," Miguel said, he turned to Cate and asked "I didn't get the chance to ask you, but would it be alright if I ask for your mobile number?"
After the two swapped digits, Josh gave her a knowing look…"I saw that," he said, smirking.
"What?" she asked.
"Miguel., you like him don't you?" he eyed her.
"Miguel? Don't be ridiculous! I just met him this morning," she said defensively. "And look at him! He looks old enough to be my dad."
"Right…" Josh said, rolling his eyes.
"Stop that," she said, annoyed.
She didn't hear the end of it from Josh until they finish lunch and made their way back to work.

That night, she heard from Miguel. The two became fast friends and eventually they started dating. Driving home one night, she learned that Miguel is a widower and he has a son who's about Cate's age and he's based in the States. Cate doesn't care if he has a son or whatever his past was, she's sure of one thing, she's falling in love with him. Turns out Miguel feels the same way and the two decided to go steady much to the astonishment of their family and friends. But nevertheless, they were happy. One day Miguel picked her up late after work.
"You doing something this weekend?" he asked her.
"Nope, why?"
"Well, my son is coming home from the States and I want you to meet him."
"Great! I'll bring something like…uh…a cake! Does that sound fine?" she asked.
"He'll like that," he said. "I love you Cate."
"And I love you."

***Chapter 2 will be up tomorrow :)
