Violent Cry Over Spilled Milk
So far this year we heard of certain murders that challenged the word, 'senseless' beyond our sense of understanding. This one may be no easier to comprehend. One August afternoon a girl's step-grandfather went ahead and poured milk down the kitchen sink drain against the wishes of his new, teen granddaughter, Labina Brown. She wanted the milk for her cereal. Labina, age 13 expressed her disappointment by stabbing her grandmother's husband, Robert Moon, age 48 in his neck.
Moon cried out to an eyewitness in their home, "She stabbed me. She stabbed me in the neck" before he felled to the floor and died. She has been charged for reckless murder which may be upgraded to intentional murder. Her defense lawyers are fighting against this severe adjustment, yet for a long while her case will remain so. For it has started to split, caused a division between the family and friends of this troubled, Milwaukee teen-aged girl with anger issues.
At the day of the murder, August 12, 2009 it has been noted by neighbors' expressions that the girl has been unhappy at home. A family friend conveyed at another time later, "There are a number of things that have been happening in this young lady's family, and I guess that was just her breaking point." The girl had often complained. Before that breaking point was there any opportunity to avoid such an violent outcome over milk?
From within what may had been a sad atmosphere of domestic discord was that girl crying for help? Or it could had simply been so that Labina was spoiled and ill-mannered to her elders. Or was she abused and neglected for years? I do not know for sure. One of my thoughts include the realization of signs of real trouble on the horizon for parents and guardians to respond to. It might be too late for this now 14-year old's family. But for many other families there may be that opportunity not to ignore what could bring a happier outcome.
10-Year-Old Credited With Saving Families In Fire
Ten year old Kaylani Velasquez of Orlando, Florida knew her neighbors across the street from her home were in danger looking out her window. And thanks to the heroic actions of this young lady none of the six families were injured from a roof fire stemming from an attic apartment at their complex. Kaylani rushed upstairs the apartment complex knocking on their doors warning them of pending destruction. "The little girl came knocking, and it was to tell everyone the building was on fire," recalling one of the residents Julie Rodriquez.
If she did not the outcome here on August 31st at Lancaster Village Apartments in Orange County, Florida may had been tragic. If you notice from the news video below there were not any statement of the building's fire alarm system. Why have these units not function if they were in place for the residents' safety? Firefighters had a hard going trying to combat the flames causing much damage which would had likely killed the residents. One of my interest here is what important influences affected Kaylani prompting her to respond to save peoples lives?
