Racism Being Experienced in Russia

In May of 2006 the BBC News reported on the alarming state of active racism in Russia. The BBC focused attention on a report produced by the Amnesty International which revealed in the year 2005 that some 28 persons were murdered and 366 individuals were assaulted in violent racism. Those statistics were likely higher considering a numbers of cases went unreported or not documented by authorities. The following year, 2006 included news worthy cases including the death of a Senegalese student.There may had been clear indications a few years ago the Russian government failed to take aggressive action against the underground wave of racism and anti-Semitism.
Communicated then to the BBC Amnesty International UK Director, Kate Allen conveyed that the attacks targeted visible ethnic minorities, foreigners and the anti-racist campaigners in Russia. Said Ms. Allen, "Some Russian authorities are turning a blind eye..." She continued, "...Instead of seeing only 'hooliganism' in vicious organized attacks on students from African, south-east Asian countries and non-Slavic Russians from Chechnya, Russia's police and prosecutors need to tackle head-on the growing scourge of violent racism in Russia."

The name of the Amnesty International report was, 'Russian Federation: Violent racism out of control'. Regarding hooliganism Ms. Allen was referring to how the police and other law officials were terming serious crimes of hate as 'hooliganism' including vicious, cold-blooded murders. A considerable number of these killings and physical attacks were conducted by skin heads whom listed Asians and Africans living in Russia among their victims.It is now 2009. Had the Russian government responded to the Amnesty International report to combat these evils?

Have violent racism began to reduce aiding Russia to be safer for all its' citizens? The way it is sounding from current victims the improvements if any are not astounding leaving much to be desired for peace and security. Due to the current level of racism and anti-Semitism many are in daily fear affecting how they conduct their lives as the Reuters video below indicates. Could you imagine in our modern day a African man being racially attacked six or seven times in a short period of months or years? An too easy answer to the questions above would be a disturbing NO. When would it be a real YES in ethnic harmony in Russia and other lands stained by 21st century racism?
