Today, this morning
Yesterday I worked as an contractor as a local, field inspector in real estate and mortgage. I usually check on the occupancy of properties-residential homes for the mortgage industry. The usual, work day involves me driving about in my 1992 Toyota Camry with a laptop, a portable gps ( global positioning system ) and digital camera in the Bay Shore area and Nassau county, New York. I use the gps to locate the properties listed in orders assigned to me.
The orders, the assignments that I get comes from a company that is hired by the mortgage insitutions and companies. These orders come via internet to my laptop computer when my built in, WI-FI system is functioning. The orders are organized by a special software licensed to me from that company hired by the mortgage industry.
Getting into this job as a real estate field inspector was something of a big change occupational wise. I was doing this part-time while working overnight in a cosmetics factory on Long Island. I was having problems dealing with overnight shift and decided to take upon a hiatus, a time off from it. This was because I gotten an increase of orders when another inspector left the work. So I took the economic risk to see if one can be successful outside the factory in making a suitable living. So if I keep up with the orders getting them done by the due dates. Then I would not have to return to the factory and that dreadful night shift.
This week was my biggest ever since I started this work during the Summer, 2006 beginning part-time in New York City. I had accomplished 104 orders, this had surprised me after adding up the stats. I needed to average such a amount to maintain a decent income monthly. And for the week I missed getting one order on time.
During the morning yesterday I was doing the typical, inspection at a house in the Bay Shore area. I passed by the front, fenced part of the home after meeting the homeowner. There was an exposed area revealing an unsecured, inground pool. It was at leash halfway filled with water. So I became very concerned because when the homeowner answered his door. The sound of a small child I heard in the background. My fearful conclusion was that this child might fall into the pool unnoticed to a great loss of life. Reporting this information to the mortgage company was not enought.
So after leaving the home I drove to a nearby street. On that street I observed two young, hispanic sisters, Bible ministers at their avocation, they did not noticed me. Yet on that street also I called 911, the police on my celluar phone to relate my concern about that unsecured pool. The woman operator assured me this matter would be checked into. What contributed to me calling them was due to a lesson stressed from a Christian meeting I had attended. We had learned from the Bible about the sacredness of human life to God. If I did not make the call and if possible that child did accidently fell into that pool losing his/her life. Then the Almighty God might hold me bloodguilty because of my awareness before the tragic incident.
This sort of reasoning affected my actions at another home during the same week, a few days before. The home owner was not home. But upon my immediate inspection I noted a considerable amount of trash near a tank that may contain flammable liquid. I saw that the home was being use for renters and trash was very close to one of their enterances.
This was indeed a serious, potential fire risk. So yes, I did attempted to report it starting first with calling 911. Yet after a number of transfers and phone calls I did not get through to the local, fire marshall to file an official complaint. Their number seemed always busy. At the time the best I could do was report it to the mortgage company associated to that property. They may likely act to protect their investment, I hope this would be soon.
Now it Sunday night before 10pm. We hear on the local channel 12 news there might be a snow storm where I will be working tomorrow. So I am considering how to take upon that day. I will let you know, thank you for dropping by.
