I sent in an essay for the writing contest.
I am not thinking I will be even close to being chosen as the winner, but nothing ventured...
Looking into the lives of others through their blogs can be interesting, and it is to me, sometimes uncomfortable.
Whatever I choose to tell you in my blog is of course, my choice.
Your opinions of me can only be formulated on what I tell you. It is the same for all of us, true?
Why then are people so defensive if they get negative feedback? Presumably we are all aware of behaviors that 'we' consider unkind, or praiseworthy. If we aren't proud to let our friends and neighbors know what we do, it is an indication of how we feel they will react.
On here we are all neighbors, all co-existing in the same space. We may be a little less inhibited, but really, don't the same standards apply? I can't see you through your avatar, but if you weren't worried about what people think, wouldn't it be your face looking back at me? So don't get upset if you say you did something hurtful, and someone asks you, why? Lighten up on the defensiveness. If all we want are 'yes men', we can all just tell cute stories.

I think honesty is healthy and deserved anywhere. But, that could just be my astrology talking:P I could go on for hours crapping about kindness, respect, sensitivity, etc. Truth be told, people--even here...especially here--don't accept the truth they desire. It's that military movie about "good men" shouting "you can't handle the truth!"
Are you spilling about your entry?:P cant hold it in?
Why did you mention that first? And, yes, expressing self-doubt about it too.
If you are uncomfortable reading other's stories/thoughts...why do it? Why not leave a post alone? Do you randomly peek in on various posts without regard for what you might be getting into? Check the sign on the door first? I imagine it would be just as uncomfortable if you walked in on someone having a personal conversation as well. Just a thought.

I like this post, "Your opinions of me can only be formulated on what I tell you. It is the same for all of us, true?"
That is so true. Some of us came into this blogging thing
not having a clue what it was all about. You can count me in that catagory.
Thats why I used my real name and at first, my real picture. People I knew were commenting and even teachers at my kids schools were reading my blog. I wanted them to know my identity, because I thought that I might get "discovered", and I had to give my real name so the person who wanted to pay me to write would be able to find me.
Funny, when I thought about getting discovered, I meant as a writer, not as a person....and sometimes when we write without a filter we end up finding ourselves.
If you are totally annonoymous, you can say anything you want without fear of being judged. If you go out there without a disguise or a costume, you have to be careful what you reveal.
I think I will blog about this! Thanks for the idea!
