I recently decided to take up duck hunting. A new hunting friend of mine and I were going to try to go out today (Tuesday the 9th) but he had to work. Having the fever bad, I decided to try it without the aid of experience, a blind, a boat, or anything you would normally need for duck hunting. My first three hours produced nothing, aside from three miised shots at a goose. The I decided to try a liitle pond back in the woods where I squirrel hunt. Sure enough, when I got back there, there were three ducks in the water. I got about 10 yards from shore when they heard me and made for the sky. I took a shot at the first one with a swing and a miss. But my second shot was dead on and she went down in the woods about 10 yards inland. I walked over and found her under some brush and when she spotted me she made a break for the water. I tried to fire again, but I had forgotten to rack after my last shot, so she made it into the pond. Now, remember, I have no boat. Only waders. So, I head back to my car and grab the inflatable kiddie boat in my trunk that is rated for a whopping 165lbs. I make it back to the pond and she had made it to the other side, about 15 yards offshore. So I stripped down to just my pants and t-shirt and jumped in the "boat". After 15 minutes of splashing around, I finally retrieved her and made it back to shore to dry off. All in all, it was a good day, and I got a nice Woodduck hen out of it. The pics are on here now, so check em out.
