"Messing me up, my whole head
Teasing me, just like Tisha, did Martin
Now look at what you're starting...."

My inspiration for this blog is something that happened one night in 2008 that my mind just couldn't really put to bed until I wrote about it. I stumbled up on A Tribe Called  Quest's song - "Find A way"  and it captured some of  what happened that night. The real detail is contained below- don't know how many people go through this but hey it was worthy of a poetic offering
.
Pink ladies oh how you all looked nice
I was a T-bird for that Saturday night
Dance moves were grease slick I never dirtied my white
T-shirt until I left right before the end of the night
It was cool and I was having a really good time
It was a 21st birthday my friend was pregnant with child
Couldn’t drink so her glass of water was wine
Soulja boy was playing and we cranked in line
With every dance we chimed in every camera we smiled
Nobody was Swiss enough to be watching our time
For you approached me like the long hand to midnight
Ticking my box with your clock like real slow grind
Making moves kinetically hands and hearts entwined
Drinking colours till we made a rainbow inside
You were in front of me but you weren’t in my sight
Cos I knew that you were someone else’s wife
It was cool I knew I wouldn’t poison grapevine
Friendship was sweeter than any aged or timeless wine
But you were drunk when I saw a change in your eyes
I was a target for roaming hands 2nd bar of the night
Accepted our connection but still apologised
If I offended then I got hyped on with the night
As we moved bar to bar I never left your side
I never wanted to I was being the protective type
Remember that guy who made me ready to fight
I had to be sure tonight that you’d be all right
Reached the club with happy feet we were feline fine
Moving round each other like lovers though we never inclined
Minutes later when you lead me outside and said some things that blew my mind
Heaven and hell were calling and we’d have to decide
We sat, you cried as we began to talk
Said you loved me why didn’t we meet before
Things could be different our bodies yearned for so much more
Said I’m not a crouching tiger go love your husband more
It was freezing cold and we hugged to keep warm
Feelings were high it would take one kiss to fall
I quoted scripture to picture writing on the wall
And so we didn’t really get intimate at all
Came mighty close but wisdom locked the door
