So I had to laugh today when I noticed on my calendar that next weekend British Summertime begins. That means that having put our clocks back an hour last October, we are now going to put them forward an hour (could someone please explain the logic??).
What made me laugh was that the words 'British' and 'Summertime' just dont fit together. My dad used to say the UK has 3 months winter, and 9 months bad weather, and I'd say thats pretty accurate!
To be fair, summer 2006 was a corker, the hottest on record. But last year it started raining heavily (and I mean HEAVILY) in April, and it never stopped until winter hit us in November. We had no summer whatsoever. The only reprieve I had was a couple of weeks in July when I went up to Newcastle, an odd place that seems to have its very own weather. You watch the forcast and everything sideswipes Newcastle.
So, as I sit here at 9.24 on a Saturday morning, watching the snow fall outside (and picking up quite a pace) I cant help but wonder if we will have a summer at all this year again. I have literally forgotten what summer feels like.
If this is global warming...I dont know what all the fuss is about...
Peace and love from the floating glacier that is The United Kingdom :-) xxx
