Last night was just typical of my luck. I decided that, just for a change, I would try going to bed a bit earlier than usual, and took myself off at half ten.
Five to one in the morning, I'm woken somewhat abruptly by what I can only describe as the deepest rumble I ever heard in my life, and my jack russell omitting one single 'woof', right in my earhole.
It was like the noise came from right in the ground itself and as I quickly discovered, that was exactly where it was coming from!
The walls shook, the floor shook and the clock fell off the wall, landing just short of my head.
Wow, my heart was racing, though I knew what it was. It was only ten seconds or so long, but it seemed longer.
I ran to the window, part of me wondering if a truck had crashed on the driveway (a woman on the news said she thought a plane must have crashed, she was waiting for the inevitable explosion) and there was a blackbird, standing in the middle of the road, his wings slightly out to the sides, looking around him, frozen solid and I could almost read his mind;
'Whoa...what the f**k was that??'
after a couple of minutes he flew off and I went back to bed, but it was ages before I could get back to sleep.
I know what you're all thinking...ha, us Brits have got no idea what a real earthquake feels like, and it probably wouldn't have felt like very much to you guys...but over here it WAS a big deal cause we just don't get 5.2 quakes here. Well...I say that, in recent years we have had a few like last nights - well, not like last nights, that was kinda dramatic compared to the others.
Anyway...its been the hot topic today...everywhere, felt as far wide as Southampton and Wales, Scotland and even Amsterdam.
I texted David...he said yes, it was felt in Newcastle too. His mum was so terrified she didn't go back to sleep.
And him? Slept through the whole thing! Haha x
Anyway...it was such a hot topic today, I thought I ought to blog about it, make a record of it, because for us Brits...it was pretty significant. xxx |
