I have lived in Charleston for three days.
The move went smoothly thanks to my friends (old and new) and my family. I got an Uhaul Saturday and three of my friends came over to help me load it. It took absolutely no time to stuff my meager possessions into the van. Dad pulled his car behind the Uhaul and drove it to Charleston. Something you have to know about me… if I move anything it WILL rain. We hit bad weather about 3 hours from Charleston and stopped for the night in Thompson, GA. The first hotel (Holiday Inn) we stopped at didn’t allow dogs – even service dogs. But, the hotel across the street (Best Western) not only allowed Satchel, but they went out of their way to make her feel welcome. They had a walking trail and were just really nice. We arrived in Charleston and spoke to Tony who works at the apartment complex. We tried to hire two of his friends to help unload, but they never showed. Not ones to worry about stuff like that, dad and I started unloading on our own. Jeri, my new neighbor, stuck her head out to introduce herself, and then proceeded to work like a dog to help me move. I took both her and dad out to Bubba Gumps in gratitude.
There is the perfect place to walk Satchel behind my apartment. We have taken to walking the ¼ mile path next to the marsh/creek four or so times a day. Satchel is convinced she is going to get a crab…I don’t know what she is going to do with it if she succeeds. (I have discovered something important about living in the city… It is hard to look dignified when one is holding a bag of poo.)
