Wow who would have thought that Cedar Rapids would flood so badly. It is now estimated that the damage in Cedar Rapids will exceed 1 billion dollars. I am sure most people have seen the images on tv of all the damage that was done in this area, but you really don't get a feel for it unless you see it for yourself in person.
I am proud of the people that have volunteered their time to help individuals and small businesses clean up after the flood. I know that one Cedar Rapids martial arts school had instructors and students go downtown and help clean a chiropractor office building that was completely flooded. It is nice to see people pull together and help out a neighbor in a time of need.
I would like to suggest that if you live outside the Cedar Rapids area and you are shopping for something online to see if there is a company from the Cedar Rapids area that you could buy it from. This will help support this community to get back on its feet. A large majority of the businesses in the downtown area are a complete loss and many of these small businesses will struggle to try to stay open and any little thing that a person can do to help is always appreciated.
