| Wellness Place |
I found an interesting place last week. Not far from my house I found a cancer non-for-profit organization that does some really neat things. More than your typical National Cancer Society office, this place, appropriately called The Wellness Place, is a beautiful warm building with a shopping list of services that they provide, FOR NO CHARGE, to those with cancer.
Weekly Yoga, Reiki, Tai Chi, Message Therapy, Acupuncture, Qi Gong, Hypnosis, etc.
They provide support groups for patients and spouses, an open art studio, work with the siblings of children with cancer, a work out room, and a nutritionist to work with patients.
And did I mention that there is NO CHARGE.
They bring in presenters each week and have their own library full of resources including cook books.
I was hesitant to visit the Wellness Place last week. Liking to keep everything as "normal" as possible, I didn't want to speak with the "intake counselor" on my three month journey. I didn't want to "hang" with other cancer patients. But I knew that I had to visit this place so I could at least say I did.
It was lovely. I spoke with the women for over an hour about my journey and she was extremely insightful and positive. And in visiting I realized the importance of taking care of oneself.... NOW not later, when something medically catastrophic happens. When was the last time you took five minutes (five whole minutes!) to stop what you were doing, mentally going to a calm place, and just letting life stop rushing by you.
When was the last time you took a yoga class, had a message, or worked out for your own health. It's unfortunate that it took cancer to make me realize that life rushes by a little too fast.
Slow down. Get a message. Eat healthy. Take a deep breath. Take care of yourself. You can't take care of others if you don't take care of yourself. Don't let something change your life because you weren't taking care of yourself. Isn't it a shame that they don't offer places like The Wellness Place to everyone (cancer or no cancer) at no charge.
Have a good evening and I think tomorrow I'll get a message! :)
