 Scribbles#26

Goodbye

I waited here for you last night
Down by the riverside.
By the old stone bridge we built as kids
Where we would run and hide.
Hand in hand, forever young,
We raced from shore to shore.
I waited one last night for you
But I can't wait here anymore.

Morning came and found me here
Beneath this old oak tree.
The one that used to be a special
Place for you and me.
Beneath this tree at the riverside,
I thought I felt you there.
It was just a summer breeze
Passing through the morning air.

I walk these stones one last time
To leave a path for you.
My steps will show the way back home
And lead you safely through.
I stop to pause and say your name
And bid my last good-bye.
Looking up, I can almost see
Your footprints in my sky.

Poignant, and more so for the things it doesn't say.

Damn! I'm warming to poetry (I blame Evetspordlaw).

This is very Robert Frost-esque. I love how it spans over time. It's timeless, that's what I like about it. Most everybody could relate.
