| Don't Shoot me Bro! |
I want to start off by saying that I'd like to find the designers of Mapquest and beat apologies out of each and every one of them.
That being said... I am still learning the highways and byways and backroads of Virginia as I continue working as a field technician for my new company. My final call yesterday brought me to a very confusing area and I was following my mapquest directions which took me into a government-controlled area. I knew the directions were wrong and I did not want to wait in a line of cars approaching a checkpoint. I saw a uniformed guard outside the checkpoint and decided to stop my car and ask where the plaza was that neither I or mapquest could find. The moment I got out of my car, I heard a booming voice, "Sir!! Get Back in Your Car!" I froze a moment and looked up to see the guard approaching me hand on his holster. Excuse me? Two other guard popped out of nowhere each with a shotgun pointed at me and my car. The guard who approached kept asking who I was and what I was doing and what were all those boxes in my car. I showed him my company badge and work order and explained I was lost and looking for a certain plaza. He kept repeating his questions. He asked for my liscence and kept asking the same questions over and over. I looked up at the shotgun twins a couple times who kept their icy eyes and shotguns at me the whole time. I was trespassing on government property eventhough I was lost and did nothing more than make an innocent right turn.
A female guard watching from the booth overheard my repetetive explanation of the plaza I was looking for. She emerged and like an angel send from above, intervened and said I was two streets down and just needed to turn around. Seems like mapquest told me to make a right when I should have made a left. Thanks, guys! The first guard barked at me to turn around and leave while Thing 1 and Thing 2 kept the shotguns trained on me. I got in my car and left and could not stop laughing. I have redubbed that part of Virginia "Shotgun Alley".
I called my customer and told him I would be going home to change my drawers before coming back to his site.
