| A Song I Knew |
New set of lyrics...
A SONG I KNEW
There's an old country boy
In a run-down shack.
Got himself a six-string,
And a fifth of jack.
Got his back to the wall,
Got his eyes to the sea.
When the sun goes down,
He sings a memory.
He sings a song about a place he knew
Where love was blind and love was true.
The richest man never had a dime
And "I do" always meant 'til the end of time.
The grass was never greener
On the other side.
And he sang a song of love
Before the music died.
He's just another shadow
Sittin' up on a hill.
He's just another face
Behind a windowsill.
Got his back to the moon,
Got his eyes on the sea.
When the sun goes down,
He sings a memory.
He sings a song about a place he knew
Where love was blind and love was true.
The richest man never had a dime
And "I do" always meant 'til the end of time.
The grass was never greener
On the other side.
And he sang a song of love
Before the music died.
He walks a dusty trail
Every night to bed.
Has a talk with Jesus,
Bows his weary head.
He says, "Lord I wanna thank you
For another day,
And if my sun sets tonight,
Take my soul away."
"Take me to a place I once knew
Where love is blind and love is true.
Where the richest man never has a dime
And "I do" always means 'til the end of time.
The grass is never greener
On the other side.
And let your angels sing
Because my music's died."
