 angels
so in genesis it says that, unbeknownst to himself, abraham entertained angels. this other one has been trying for a year. more than that. he likes me. he really likes me. but he doesnt quite get me. i like him. i really like him. but i am not quite comfortable around him. i can't read him. i dont like not being able to read him. i am scared. broken dolls can be fixed. sometimes. but when a broken doll gets broken again, who can fix that? i am afraid to even talk to him anymore. if he calls i won't answer this time, i say. so my very best friend says that we dont know the role anyone plays. we dont know why someone is in our lives or us in theirs. so i remembered the above, that abraham entertained angels. he let them in not knowing where they were from, why they were there, or what they might do to them, an old couple, once in their home. and they were rewarded so richly. they were the prelude to a nation. all because they let in the angels. and they had no idea at first. i do remember that.

so as i stand in my kitchen i say, 'right. like an ANGEL could ever walk into my life', and i toss something in the trash. it bounces out. too full. so i take it outside. a puppy walks up and in. yes, a puppy. cute, sweet and fat. clearly lost. very friendly. wagging the entire lower half of her body. i pick her up, look at her tag.

there, printed in bold letters, was her name.

ANGEL.

he called.

i answered.
