Too Adult or Too Young in Here?

Are you at all afraid of young people being exposed to very adult material here which could only worsen the youth situation(underage drinking/sex/etc.)?
Or do you think there should be some age group restriction controls(like movie ratings and channel blocking on TV)?
Or do you not care either way?
And, just in general opinion, do you think there are more young people trying to act adult or more older people acting like children on here?

Be honest.

I am not afraid... I am just concerned about about my daughters getting the wrong information. Age group restriction is a necessary thing in order to be a good parent.... there some things that I would not watch. I honestly have not noticed either way. I wonder if that is a good thing?

Actually I believe kids are going to get adult material if that's what they want, and if it's not here, they will get it somewhere else.

I believe that it is absolutely the parents responsibility to oversee their childrens use of the computer, and need to be more aware of what their kids do here on line.

Yes, I do believe there should be laws and mechanisms in place to protect our children.

As for your last question:
I do believe that there are far more kids trying to act like grown ups on the computer, than vise versa!
It's quite obvious most of the time just by the types of questions asked. Subject matter, spelling, and abbreviations they use are also dead give aways.

The more we restict knowledge, drugs, sex, the more attractive they become. Let us stop calling attention to those things that threaten us and let the kids learn about life before they get in trouble.

I wouldn't mind kids learning things that my generation restricted from us kids sooner if it was done in a sensible manner...but when adults like to "sleaze" things up a bit...the kid is going to get the same wrong idea he gets about vocabulary. When I was a kid, if you said the F word, you would get your ear pulled and your butt whipped. Nowadays, kids use it like "ice cream". Educate the young ones and discipline them appropriately. Do not beat them physically or verbally. And, be sure they learn the right way, not the "sleazy" way.

You are right about restrictions drawing attention, penumbra...but it still has a purpose. Hence why they invented child-proof locks(which are kinda hokey theses days).

And, actually, jwcj, I have found some young people on here with better writing and speaking skills than most adults. And, I have seen many adults who surprise me when I hear they are actually married and acting like a kid who got kicked in the shins by a bully...A BULLY!! ugh

I think that adult topics should be allowes, and should be apprioatly labeled. That way only those who are old enough could see it.

Perhaps I'm not old enough to post my opinion here, but I'll do it anyways...

I don't think children/teenagers can be exposed to anything here that they can't find readily accessible on the internet or on TV. If there were age restrictions on this website, it would only encourage the general thoughts populace to lie about their age.

With that in mind, I think it should be the posters responsibility to mark a post as appropriate for underage viewers, not this automatic stuff. It doesn't work so well.

For the last point? Being as I am a teenager and do read a few other teenagers blogs, I find there are more adults acting like children than children acting like adults. Sometimes what teenagers post, whether it is liked or not, is how they feel about the situation and often how the situation is. Even children/teens have to make difficult decisions.

Today, young people are already being exposed. As the generation goes on, young and younger people will be more exposed. I was exposed as a child in the 90's about sex and drugs
