Which would you rather be.Have all the friends in the world(not literally meaning everyone in theworld would be a friend) but be as dumb as a doornail(maybe if everyone is your friend, no one wouldnotice how dumb you are?)....or be wise and knowledgeable butmaybe only have a friend or two if you are lucky to find a like mind?

[Inaddition, on a scale of 1 to 10 for both intelligence and popularity(1 being not much, 10 being verymuch so), how do you rate yourself? and how do you value each trait?]

   Survey Answers
Having people who care about you is a comfort that to me, no
amount of intelligence could compare to. So I would take the dumb
as a doornail scenario.

I'll take a quasibuddhist approach. I'm sure both have their good
qualities. With friends, you will be happy. If you are smart
enough, you will be happy as well. Intelligence:9 (I think I'm
smart... I have a good GPA, not that it measures intelligence
very well, but it's my only way to measure percieved
intelligence.) Popularity: 7 (I don't like having too many
friends, just a couple close ones. And people seem to like me, so
I'm sure that helps a little.)

I think that even if you have all the friends in the world, how
many of them would actually respect you? And would you actually
appreciate them if you are a complete dolt? I dont think that you
would benefit from that scenario well at all. I would wonder if
the "friends" are just using oh ye dumb one for thier
own social gains or if they actually liked you for who you
are. I would far rather be intelligent and have the proper
respect from one or two friends, then the falsity of millions.
(or even ten if you want to play it that way). I think that I
would be happier with just a few friends and being smart so i can
accomplish something in life that is more then just being a
professional party guest.

When it comes to popularity for my self i have often gone through
phases where i would have tons of friends and then i would move
or something and have none really at all. At this point in my
life right now i have a decent portion of friends(about 7) that i
believe are genuine to me. I would rate me at about a 6 or
7. When it comes to intelligence i think i am smart in
someways and an utter idiot in others. I think that i have an
average intelligence accordingly and would probably give me a 6.

--interim-- Now look at the last two answers here. An
interesting study sample. sushi claims to play quasibuddhist
but has a high image of self rating at a 9 and 7. Sounds like
they can be selective and hold the nose up high(not necessarily
snooty). On the other hand, LittleStar--which by the way, well
said--has a very intelligent answer, seems just as ultra
popular(regardless of spurts caused by inevitable circumstances)
and is much more humble about themselves with a 6/7 and a

I feel so alone....I don't want to be popular, I do want to be in
the company of good friends,I have a few. We keeep in touch, and
I know they will, and have done, anything for me. As they know I
will. Intelligence? by who's measure? I am dyslexic, got f's in
grade school spelling and english, A's in high school math and
science, just put me down as one on one kind of guy

i'd rather be dumb as a doornail with lots of friends i could
turn to opposed to being intelligent with a friend or two. a
party with the dumb ones would be more fun at least.

I prefer to be wise and knowledgeable and only with a friend or
two. I think it so useless to live in the middle of
unintelligent/ignorant crowd. As with IQ, my IQ is just sit
on normal. I'm not so sure how I can rate myself from 1 to 10. My
belief is that those with normal IQ can be as smart as they want
to be through learning. Knowledge is important for
survival.....

provoking... I'd say a "normal" IQ would put you
between 4-6 on the scale I set. Same goes for me.

I'm neither ultra smart nor dumb as a doornail, but friends mean
a lot to me. I would take the wise but have a few good friends. I
don't need a lot of friends but I do need true blue ones. I score
myself a 6/7. Hows that brainstormer love?

I would like the seconds, and I am not very intelligent, but not
quite dumb, so I would give myself being a four and I would rate
my popularity either a five or a four as well. Then again, I'm
not a very good person and I don't like myself much.

Let me think... I will take that as half and half..give me the
brains and a few hundred zombie friends.. on a scale = my
intelligence is a 7 my popularity is perhaps a 1 Can't
imagine why...Ohh that's right...Its part of my nature.

Although I don’t really know how to be good friends
with people as I don’t tend to trust very easily. I tend
to surround myself with people that some would call
“weak” because I tend to call on them when I want
to spend time with them but have had a habit of making up plans
if I don’t want to spend time with them when they
call. Call me fickle. Maybe I am a user although I would
honestly give my life for the few friends I do have. As for
“smarts”… an online IQ test says I
am stupid with an IQ of 166. What do computers know? Obviously
not much, since I seem to be fixing them everyday. I work in the
IT field and have a Bachelor in Science degree but settle for
being overworked (min of 50 hours a week) and accept pennies on
my rubber paycheck. How smart is that? So, I reckon I am
somewhere between an overall 4 and 8. I am Female.
