Good Movies--help for the choosing challenged
It has come to my attention by at least one person close to me that people out there still don't know how to pick good movies:P Now, I may not be the expert. Nor can I know everyone's tastes. But, I like to think 9 out of 10 times, I pick a winner. Sometimes a lil worse odds:P

Anyway, I am going to share a list of movies I think are good to great. I will try to identify genres, as well. This will be a difficult task(one I may need to add to/work on over time as it will be hard to recall all the good movies I've seen growing up...and those that apparently some people have missed all their life:P

Romance/Romantic comedy:

1)Bridget Jones' Diary
2)50 First Dates(Adam Sandler)
3)Moulin Rouge(non-comedy romance drama)
4)10 Things I Hate About You
5)With Honors(could also be considered drama)

Comedy:

1)Anger Management
2)Bruce Almighty
3)Hot Fuzz
4)Shanghai Noon(great team-up of Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan)
5)Shanghai Knights
6)Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
7)Adventures in Babysitting
8)Superbad
9)Ferris Beuller's Day Off
10)Yesman
11)You Don't Mess with the Zohan(though a bit raunchy/sexually stupid)
12)Run, Fat Boy, Run
13)Juno(though a weak ending, bad soundtrack)
14)Bedtime Stories
15)Big Daddy
16)Mr Deeds
17)Talladega Nights

"Dramedy"(dramatic comedy):

1)Click(best movie of 2006)
2)Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
3)Stranger Than Fiction

Animated/Computer animated/Anime:

1)Ratatouille
2)Cars
3)Monsters, Inc.
4)Paprika(anime)
5)The Cat Returns(anime)(the prequel I have yet to see is "Whisper in the Wind")
6)Recess: The Movie(and the whole cartoon series)
7)The Triplets of Belleville(french)
8)Persepolis(from Iran)
9)Beauty and the Beast
10)The Little Mermaid
11)The Lion King
12)Aladdin
13)Disney's Tarzan(animated, good soundtrack)
14)The Last Unicorn(tear jerker)
15)Space Chimps(iffy)
16)Wall E
17)Kung Fu Panda
18)Beowulf
19)The Tale of Desperaux(though I wasn't fully satisfied)
20)8 Crazy Nights(Adam Sandler animated Hannukah comedy)
21)Finding Nemo
22)Coraline
23)Monster House
24)Charlie Brown(It's the Great Pumpkin/Halloween and the Christmas special are the best two)

Fantasy/Fictional adventure(superheroes included):

1)Lord of the Rings(though its very long and the ending stunk)
2)The Chronicles of Narnia(The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe AND Prince Caspian made so far)
3)Dick Tracy(technically based off a newspaper comic, more of a "down-to-earth" detective story)
4)The Spirit(much like Dick Tracy though not as good overall)
5)Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow(a bit of a sleeper, yet inspiring)
6)Speed Racer(2008 live action/special effects)
7)Batman: The Dark Night(and Batman: Begins, if you need the backstory)
8)Spider-Man 1, 2 and 3(#1 is the best overall)
9)X-Men #3(#1 and 2 are rather unnecessary after seeing #3)
10)Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer(again, #1 not as impressive)
11)Hancock
12)The Incredible Hulk(2008)
13)Iron Man
14)Willow
15)The Neverending Story(only the first one)
16)The Brothers Grimm(bits of comedy inserted in fairy tale fantasy...similar to Princess Bride)
17)Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
18)Young Sherlock Holmes

Cultural/Asian cinema:

1)The Last Samurai(a rare good Tom Cruise film)
2)Memoirs of a Geisha
3)House of Flying Daggers
4)The Curse of the Golden Flower
5)Hero(though another odd ending)
6)Iron Monkey(a hint of comedy in the mix)
7)Saawariya(Bollywood/Indian)
8)Slumdog Millionaire(could be classified romantic comedy)
9)Fearless(Jet Li)

Action:

1)Big Trouble in Little China(a mix of action, a little fright and comedy)
2)Crank(though a bit vulgar and raunchy sexually)
3)Transporter 2(and Transporter 1, have yet to see #3)
4)James Bond: Goldeneye
5)Tomb Raider(not too active)

Drama/Suspense:

1)Lakeview Terrace
2)Into the Wild
3)The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Feel free to suggest titles as I may not be able to recall all the good movies I have seen in one night:P

Oh heck no!:O

Well, at least there were no unpleasant words in any of those titles. You KNOW how I feel about horror movies...that is one thing that separates us from being close:P I just don't see the appeal of being scared outta my mind and orfaces. For you, those are all probably Horromedies. Like people used to tell me it was funny to watch Chucky and Nightmare on Elm Street. I don't care if they were poorly made...they still scare the crap out of me before bed.

Flowers in the Attic was awesome, I was just talking to a coworker about that movie yesterday! I think you should mention Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I really liked that movie. :)

Nice that you care about your friends enough to get them up to cinematic speed. :)

Brainstormer - There's one movie in particular that I can't seem to agree with, namely Dick Tracy. While I've never seen it, I have never heard anyone say they liked this film until now. I've noticed you're a Jim Carrey & Adam Sandler fan. I would've added Liar Liar to that list. I thought his earlier stuff was really stupid. I couldn't stand Ace Ventura.

Gwatlan - I'm with you on the horror movies, although I tend to not go with the sequels as much - although I do like all the zombie flicks. I thought Silent Hill was really creepy, too. The Exorcist still scares the beejeebies outta me! As the name suggests, I'm a fan of vamp flicks, too. I think I can still recite Lost Boys word for word.

I hated and dreaded ever seeing Lost Boys...scared the crap outta me...and those worms:S

Yes, Dick Tracy actually was a better movie than the old cartoons. I recently saw some of the cartoons and wondered why I watched them other than for the characters. I kid you not. Warren Beaty did a good job with the part. Only Madonna was a questionable choice...but she rocks the soundtrack. I like "Back in Business".
I really like the fedoras and coats of colors...the atmosphere and artistry.

Agreed, I may yet add Liar, Liar...though that one was more sappy and family oriented. Not his best work. I should also add The Truman Show...I own and liked that one. I just couldn't remember every movie I liked in one night:P The reason I like Ace Ventura...well, two parts I liked were the start and the end:P I love how he handles the box of glasses in the opening credits and then beats the crap out of the Philadelphia Eagle at the end.

I should also mention...

If anyone has any questions about any of the films listed(by me), feel free to ask more about them. Like who is in the movie, what was good or not so good, etc.

Indecent Proposal was pretty good. Old comedies; Animal House, 1941, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstine, Meatballs 1 (#2 sucked). Most of the John Wayne movies. Sound of Music, Oklahoma. And only at the movie house - Rocky Horror Picture Show. This is just a few I can remember this late at night.

I agree with most of the movies, somewhat. Some I'd only put as 'good' while others I'd say are 'excellent'.

A series of unfortunate events though...no no no no no. Screwed up the books BIG TIME! They took the first three books in the series, scrambled them together, and dumped them into a script, ripped out some good parts, and added some that aren't in any of the books. Bah! Pissed me off!

Yay for Willow though. Just found that in the $5 dvd bin at walmart and have watched it several times. And yay for neverending story. Watched that so many times my old vhs tape disintergated. Have yet to get a dvd copy.

You and your accuracy of the text:P I know I'd be mad if they changed MY book...but I haven't read any of these books and liked the films:P Shame on me.
