A Perfect Snow Day
As the sun poked its fingers up from the horizon, the atmosphere trangressed from midnight blue to purple to a soft grey. Clouds had spread across the sky like a thick blanket. The sun poked its tangerine head under the blanket and said, "Good morning."

Light streaming in through the window of the (spare) room gradually shook me til I snapped from my slumber with wincing eyes. Rubbing them forcefully while groaning, I felt a warmth from under the covers welcome me. It flooded my nostrils and made me smile. Soon the pains of waking early in the winter didn't feel so bad. I let out a hearty yawn while singing a few notes before capping my mouth. [How mindless of me when she was probably still asleep in the other bedroom.] Chuckling to myself with my eyes wide open, I--quickly becoming energized by the morning--rolled out of bed into my fuzzy slippers and shuffled past the pieces of the project I had been working on late into the night(which is partly why I slept separately). I flinched as I looked out the windows at the brilliant hills and dustings of white powder. Upon feeling my soft, cotton winter pajamas out of place, I swiftly adjusted them.

Slinking through the hallway, I found her buried under the covers--as anticipated--with only a trace of her hair exposed beyond the thick cuff. As I crept up alongside the bed, I stifled a giggle. The sun cast such an angellic glow upon her face as she exposed it to me. She looked so precious; I wanted to paint her picture rather than disturb her. A strand of hair drifted across her face which made her twitch her nose. When she made a sound, the laughter sprung from my mouth. Her eyes peeled open with a somewhat fierce "what are you doing" look in them. [So much for capturing the moment in a picture.] I youthfully climbed on top of the thickness of covers draped over her. She slowly rolled onto her back with a curious half-smile and her eyes still half-shut from waking earlier than she had planned. Seizing advantage, I rolled forward onto my chest and found her lips with my own. She was motionless at first but warmed up nicely as my top lip met with her bottom(lip). [Had she reached up around me and grazed my back with her fingertips, I might have gone further.] Her eyes widenned and were graced by the early morning sun. Her smile motivated me.

After racing off to make a humble breakfast(hot cocoa, orange juice and bagels with cream cheese), I rejoined her with the tray of food. Setting the tray on the end of the bed, I ran to get the TV cart and rolled it into the room. After setting it up, I leaped onto the bed--nearly spilling the food before grabbing the tray--and crawled under the covers beside her. As I passed her the tray, she rose up along the padded headboard. Still, her eyes were not adjusted to the morning. As I turned on the TV to find the latest news, she let out a melodius yawn which made me smile. Bumping shoulders, I greeted her lips with mine once more. She smiled--biting her lower lip gently--as she brushed back the hair hanging over her ears and craddled her head in the shoulders of her fuzzy nightgown.

The report said that much of the city was nearly buried in snow. All schools were closed as were most businesses. [After five minutes, I had heard enough of the news.]

As I turned off the TV, carefully pushed aside the tray and rolled back on top of her, she said something that made me giddy like a boy staying home from school. [No. She didn't say to relax in bed while she cleared the snow herself. :P] I told her to get herself ready and meet me by the front door. We both dressed in our most comfortable sweatpants, snow pants and boots. She opted for a grey tank top while I put on a green hooded sweatshirt before deciding it might be too warm under my heavy jacket should I become too active. I swapped it with a grey tshirt before grabbing my favorite goofy winter hat and heading for the door. When she arrived shortly after me, we both laughed at wearing the same color shirt. As she tipped her head to tug at the fabric rippling over her chest, two slivers of her hair curled down over her forehead while a frazzled ponytail--casually fitted with a fuzzy white elastic band--slipped down along her left shoulder. When she looked back up at me, her lips shifted to one side with a curious smile as she wondered what I was thinking. I was simply taking it all in. With little decisive precision, we figured out what to pack and gathered it into the car shortly after a bear hug and another quick kiss. I put on my puffy and trusty insulated green jacket while she slipped into her equally puffy pink jacket with a furry white lining(which paired with her white-and-pink boots and ponytail made her quite the attractive snow bunny). She donned her winter hat and snow goggles as we climbed into the car. [We agreed to let her drive.]

Roaring through the snow, the car's(a small yet mighty 4x4, actually) big tires made short work of the two-foot thick white carpet. As I rode along, I drifted off into my own thoughts til she punched me gingerly and called for my attention. I looked over at her feeling somewhat embarrassed. Though I could not see her eyes well through the orange plastic, I felt a bit reassured by her smile. As I smiled back, she let out a small yet hearty laugh that sent pleasant chills up my spine(which only made me smile more).

When we reached our destination(the top of a steep slope beside a forest area not far from home), we found a few kids playing there as well. It wouldn't take much for us to feel like kids ourselves as we picked our "toys" from the car's rear hatch. After attempting to be sports stars for a while, we eventually started interacting with the kids. First we helped push them down the hill on their sleds. Then we worked together to build a rather sloppy snow man(which we demolished while laughing soon after). I was a bit disappointed that we didn't perfect and had to destroy it. But--with a pat on the back, a slippery hug and a brief but warm kiss(which was a bit awkward with the kids nearby and the snowflakes wisking across our faces)--I...forgot what had bothered me.

A beaming smile spread across her face. In a flash, I was caught in the middle of a playful snowball fight. I thought I might end up the biggest target and go home a wet mess. That was til I grabbed each of the kids and then her and stuffed each of them face first into the snow. As she rolled onto her seat with a cracking white mask on her face, she laughed so hard yet pleasantly that I nearly wet myself. Before I knew it, the kids were leaving the scene. I turned to hear fragments of voices from afar. We waved as they dissolved into distant shadows.

When I eventually looked back at her, I felt a tremendous spark. It was as if golden light was shining from above. As flakes continued to dance through the air in a gentle breeze, there wasn't a sound to be heard. Just the whispers of the wind and the patters of wet snow. We came together like magnets and locked lips. It didn't matter that we bumped our heads and goggles against each other. It didn't matter that it was cold and still snowing outside. [It DID matter if anyone would have come along at that time and found us there, but I hoped and prayed that wouldn't happen.] We forgot all that and only focussed on each other. Falling and rolling into the snow while kissing, we eventually tore off our coats and unfastenned our snow pants. The snow repeatedly gave us chills, but we didn't care. As her hat slipped off, I stroked her hair and cupped her face in my hands while taking a moment to look into her eyes. It wasn't long before we completely forgot our surroundings and made love. [It felt like we were slowly sinking into the snow from all the body heat being generated.][Imagine what THAT "snow angel" would look like. :P]

It wasn't until she sneezed that I became a little concerned. Struggling to part lips, I gradually pushed off of her with both hands at her sides and silently suggested we put ourselves back together. She grabbed my chin and kissed me one last time before agreeing with a smile and rolling aside. It was difficult not to kiss her again as we re-packed the car. Neither of us uttered a word as we drove home. We only communicated with random smiles as we listenned to some pleasing music on the radio.

Back at the house, we left the car packed, trudged through the snow to the front door and unloaded our wet clothes before rushing them to the laundry room to dry. Upon meeting in the kitchen, we both made a cup of hot cocoa and reclined against countertops on opposite sides of the room. I couldn't help throwing glances at her with strands of hair clinging to her face and springing from her damp ponytail. Her eyes lit up as she sipped from the steaming decorative mug. Though we were both somewhat wet, we came to the conclusion that we had better clear at least some of the snow from the pavement outside. So, putting our wet gear on once more, we made it a labor of love to clear the walk and driveway. Little was said and no affections were shown during the effort. When it was not all said but done, we came in for another cup of cocoa which we didn't have right then. Instead we agreed it was best to take a hot shower before getting too comfortable.

After going our separate ways to prepare, we met at the bathroom door with towels and supplies in hand and laughed. Both our minds started to ponder the possibilities before she insisted I go first. I humbly consented and closed the door behind me. A short while after warming myself under the spray, I heard a faint sound from outside the stall. Suddenly, the door slid aside and she climbed in behind me. [My (HOOHA) nearly sprang upright the moment I saw her.] Before I could think of something to say, she was pushing me under the spray and pressing against me while merging her lips with my own. I nearly hit my head a dozen times and bumped it twice against the shower head in the process. After thrusting her against the doors and then holding her against the adjacent wall for a while, I was a bit surprised to have her gently push me back and slip aside. She softly apologized and said she would come back when I was done. It was difficult to keep a straight thought after that display. Once I felt satisfied with my shower, I put myself together and openned the door. She silently slipped past me--exchanging only eye contact--and closed the door behind her. I paused outside but never went back in.

Later, after slipping into a cozy green sweatsuit, I sought out solace in the living room(after I brought back the TV cart from the bedroom). While curled up in a daydreaming ball on the couch, I turned my head slightly as she sauntered past me in her rose-colored sweatsuit. She had stopped in the kitchen to make two cups of cocoa which she carried with her on a small oval tray. She smiled shyly yet warmly as she crawled up beside me with a foot of space between us. She let me take my own mug from the tray. I thanked her quietly for making me a cup before taking my second sip. As our minds drifted into the program, we threw random glances at each other but never spoke another word until later in the evening.

As the sun fell below the horizon, we decided to make a pizza and start a fire(an electronic simulated fire created on a screen beside the TV). Conversation was brief and restrained. We sipped cranberry apple juice from wine glasses. Then came an awkward silence. To pass the time, we played a board game and then dug out the video game system to play a few rounds of a fighting game. Occasionally we would laugh(and sometimes slip in a quick kiss) after butting shoulders or wrestling playfully for a moment. We played until we were too tired to sit upright. As our eyes began to sag, I slithered over to her and gave her a weak kiss before letting out a drunken chuckle. She clutched my chin and kissed me back before reaching around to massage my shoulders. She whispered that we should get ready for bed. Lingering motionless for a moment, I finally agreed.

I retrieved my pajamas from the spare room before remembering how I had awoke that morning. When I turned around, I found her shuffling down the hall in one of her fuzzy winter nightgowns and even "fuzzier" slippers. She had a glow that made her appear like a walking candle. She released the ponytail from its band and fluffed her hair as she looked over her shoulder at me and smiled. I stood still with my jaw dropping slightly as I talked with her via telepathy. [I heard her say, "There's always tomorrow, tiger."]

In the end, we once again found ourselves "sleeping" in separate rooms. [It was difficult for either of us to simply go to sleep.] Nonetheless, it was a great "snow day". [Who's to say either of us didn't try something after crawling in bed? Oh. And, that sick feeling she experienced a few days later? It turned out to be a stomach bug. :P]

[A modest tale of modern day fantasy.]

I guess you are a bit of a romantic :P
Good writing by the way, very descriptive. Although one thing I noticed was that you hardly spoke to her. But who am I to say, its your "modern day fantasy"
