Until last night, I had never in my life enjoyed watching a televised sporting event. Well, maybe basketball once or twice, if the Spartans were playing, but I never got into it. This was before I went to a bar in Allston with some friends, and had the incredible bonding experience of watching the Red Sox kick some serious ass out on the field against Cleveland. Oh man. I'm not sports-minded but I know enough about baseball to follow the game and what's going on, and it pretty much rocked. This experience was heightened by nachos, Irish hard cider, and a table where we had a decent view of the game.
One thing that really bothers me about professional sports, though, is that these guys get paid millions of dollars to play and some of them suck quite a bit. And the sports where they actually do smackdowns on the court in front of their fans because their testosterone levels shoot through the roof...what are they thinking? I wonder how that affects young fans. On that note, how often does a pro basketball player, or hockey player, or whoever, come on the air to publicly apologize and admit that he's made a mistake? I don't think it's necessary for a player to say "Sorry everyone, I'm a jackass" every time he knocks down an opponent, but I'm curious if there's a notable parallel between pro sports fights and playground scuffles.
You tell me.
Oh, and I didn't mean to get all serious/negative in this post, but the curiosity poked out from the cobwebs of my mind. GO SOX!!!
