A side thought on music
I have a question to any and every radio DJ out there about the biz. I must know why the "popular songs" of today are played to death and beyond.  To the point to where people not only turn their radio stations when they hear them again, but before turning, just at that first note that hits their ears, they think seriously about driving down to their local radio station and ripping the album out of the player and smashing it to pieces and then dancing on the broken cassette, cd, record (what have you).  What is the thought process in this?  Why, I ask you, is this what the radio stations think people want?  I would love to turn on the radio and hear a great variety of music from a genre, or just a random mix playing whatever they want.  Not to have turn on the radio and pray that "Paralyze" by Finger Eleven will wait to play three times that day when I don't happen to be in my car without a cd.  I.cant.stand.that.song.  If I have to hear it one more time, I will strangle myself with the wire from my keyboard.  I realize that, yes, it was a catchy tune when it first came out, but do the big wigs at the radio stations really think that what the people want is for you to shove it down their throats just because they thought at first it was a good jam? It's like a kid who does something that mildly entertains an adult, and once they see that the adult was entertained they believe that the result of them doing that one thing over and over again will be the same. When after the 2nd or 3rd consecutive time you just want to beat them and scream, "Enough! Stop it!"

I continually have the same complaints about music and radio stations... But I think that if I were to have my own radio station, or my own radio program, it would be awesome.  I'm sure i'd have plenty of critics though from the opposite end of the spectrum and no one can be completely happy.  All I want to know is why? Why do radios overplay?  I can think of plenty of good songs and good bands that the radio killed for me.

You're so right. I know *sometimes* radio stations are only allowed to play a certain genre, and if it's a student radio station on a college campus they have to play songs that are approved. But there's no reason for the constant repeat of songs that normal radio stations do. it's obnoxious.
