Vampire's Heart - The Story Begins

"Take this", he gave her a parchment with text written in the Sacred language, "These are the coordinates of your next victim."
"He wants me to kill again so soon?", Aldorniya raised her eyebrows in surprise but she silently flew away without waiting for an answer. It was not the vampire-angels' business to ask questions; the only thing they did was obey their God's orders, the God of the Human Land situated between the two worlds - the World of Light and the World of Darkness. The one who was in control of life and death. The wisest and fairest among all Gods, the only one who never made mistakes, and whose justice nobody questioned, even when he took away life much more often than he gave it.

She was swallowed by the darkness and couldn't see anything but she knew perfectly well where she was going. Her orientation, like the one of the others of her kind, was faultless. Her eyes sparkled silver in the dark while she was reading the coded text from the parchment. She thought of her next victim. Avon. Thanks to her innate prophetic gift, she knew this time it was not just the next old dying person but a completely healthy and strong young man. Did it really matter though? He had decided so and this was the way it was going to be.

She found his home quickly. There was light in his room and Aldorniya waited hidden in the shadows near the open window.
"Sweet dreams, brother" the voice of a little girl reached her, then she heard the door closing and the light of the candles was blown out. Aldorniya stood motionless for a while until she heard the deep calm breathing of the sleeping man, and entered.
The bed was at the end of the room. She got closer and leaned over him in order to finish her mission as soon as possible. But at that very moment a lightning flashed in the sky and gave light on the man's face. As if something pierced her heart...
"But he is just a child yet!", Aldorniya thought. Was he even twenty years old? Of course, according to human standards he looked older than her but as an immortal she had lived hunderds, thousands of years. She had stopped counting them a long time ago. A life devoided of feelings, but carrying so many resposibilities.
"And now you are going to die...", she whispered and for the second time pointed her vampire teeth towards his neck. She knew he would feel no pain. Once death came, Aldorniya would calm down his frightened soul, having just left the body, and would accompany it to the Light.
Suddenly he opened his eyes. Aldorniya quickly moved to the wall, in a great astonishment. Oh, no, he shouldn't see her; no mortal by that time had seen an immortal creature! But what was done could not be undone, as the vampire-angels, unlike the ordinary vampires, were unable to kill people who were in full consciousness... or at least not without very serious consequences later.

"What the hell...!", Avon shouted and abruptly stood up, "Who are you? Do not hide in the dark, show your presence!"
Another lightning flashed and for a second he could clearly see his midnight visitor in the room - her black hair, silver eyes, skin as pale as moonlight, sheer apparel and shivering dark wings. On her waist she was wearing a belt upon which a crystal sword was hanged.
"This is impossible...", he thought he couldn't trust his eyes any more, "What... who are you?"
Aldorniya did not say a single word, she stood as silent and indecisive as she was so far.
"Speak! Or I will...", he searched the drawer by his bed with shaking hands, took out a gun and pointed it at her breast, - "Answer or I will kill you, here and now!"
Her face kept its absolute calmness until she finally said, "You'd better not do that, you might hurt yourself..."
"Hurt myself? I?", Avon repeated, unable to believe what he had heard, "Are you making sport of me?"
"No", she shaked her head, "Human weapons cannot hurt me, but on the other hand they can hurt you."
He nervously ran his fingers through his hair but didn't take the gun down.
"Why are you here?", he asked confused.
"I am here to kill you."
Her anwer was frightening but it had sounded like the most natural thing in the world. Avon lighted the candle so he could examine her better. He had never seen a more magnificent creature but it looked like her appearance had nothing to do with the evil intentions of her words.
"To kill me? May I ask why?"
Aldorniya came closer and he was able to see the pentacle on her neck.
"I was ordered to. However, now everything went wrong", her eyes were looking around the room without actually seeing anything, "You shouldn't have waken up, you were supposed to die in your sleep. And my intuition did not alert me, which is very strange... What am I going to do with you now?"
"Why don't you just leave me and go back where you came from?", his voice was trembling, "In the next room my little sister is sleeping and if you dare hurt her I will-"
"Your sister is of no interest to me, Avon, I'm here for you."
"You know my name? How could you-"
"You are really just a child", she gave a tired sigh, "We don't have time for explanations now. Besides, during all these centuries I have never talked to a human being... Don't you understand that this was not supposed to happen? I can't kill you now but I can't let you live either..."
With a very precise movement she took the gun from his hands and left it carefully on the bed. Then she turned to him again, "You are coming with me. It is for you to choose whether it is going to happen the hard or the easy way."
"Where are you planning to take me?", he asked, scared to death.
"To Him. To my God. He will decide what is going to happen to you."
"Why don't you just leave me here and lie to him that you have already killed me?", he was becoming more and more desparate, "I don't want to die... There are so many things I've dreamed of and haven't achieved yet. What kind of a god would play in such a pervert way with a man's life?"
Aldorniya went by the window and stared at the stormy sky.
"You don't understand", she said after a certain period of contemplation, "Nobody can lie to Him. He sees everything, He even sees us now. With His glance He sweeps the entire Earth, His mission is to keep the order and laws here."
Avon couldn't help feeling like he was dreaming. He sat and covered his face with hands, in a desparate attempt to keep his mind sane and think clearly. He had heard of the legend of the Five Worlds and their inhabitants, of course, but he had never truly believed in their existence. Nevertheless, here she was, standing in front of him so real...
"The blood on your clothes", he whispered, "is it human blood?"
Aldoriya nodded her head, "Yes, I've been created to kill humans."
His body was shuddering with fear.
"Don't you have a heart?"
"A heart?", she reapeted with an emotionless voice, "What are you talking about...? Actually, it doesn't matter. We've lost enough time. You are coming with me, now!"

She looked small and tender but her physical strength was amazing. With no efford she caught him by the waist and flew outside, carrying him, as if she didn't even notice his weight. Luckily, the storm had ceased and it was no longer raining but the smell of rain and dewy grass still filled the air.
