Sometimes two year olds can be overwhelming. They don't like to listen. They always want their way. They love to experiment...
I often feel overwhelmed, in both a good and bad way, as a mom...sometimes because I am dealing with a temper-tantrum in the middle of Target or a fresh stripe of boogers across my new suit, but sometimes its because he just gave me a kiss out of the blue or whispered "i love you berry much" in my ear...you just never can guess what you may get to discover with a two year old each day.
Today I realized that you can learn a lot from one of these great, imaginative creatures....
For Easter, we bought our son this little toy called a Word Whammer. It has a bunch of letters with magnets on the back that fit into the home device to spell and sound out three letter words....
My son loves it...
What he especially loves is to spell "Mom" and "Dad". The best part, though, is the celebration dance he completes while singing the "You spelled a word!" song...His arms curl up like a chimpanzee and he squints his eyes and grins a cheesy grin, while bouncing up and down to the beat. It is hilarious.
So, today I got home from yet another overwhelming day at work, and I almost got sucked into my usual funk of wallowing in my self-pity, worrying about everything I have to do, thinking about all things I should be cleaning in the house......but then Wyatt got out the Word Whammer...and then he started dancing that dance...and it was all over.
I just squeezed and squeezed the daylights out of him.
This was a great moment to realize what really matters at the end of the day...work is work...but my life is about the dance.
