I was thinking of ways I could improve my current situation and found that I don't have all the answers. For example, I'm inbetween careers at this time and wondered if anybody out there had some advice or success stories as to how they landed their "dream job". This got me thinking of other areas in life I wanted to become more knowledgeable about. Recently, I spent way too much money on getting my air conditioner fixed in my car. I thought, if I just had some basic knowledge as to how I could fix it on my own, I could have saved a bunch of hard earned cash. Who else out there is looking to better themselves and in what areas? Please share..... |

I had always looked for a way to improve myself most of my life, like reading self help books, going to the gym and keeping fit, but I found that it was only half the equation. Once I started working on the "inner" me, that's when I found my life improved in ways that were unexpected.

good call meditationsolution...any tips on working on the "inner you?" for example, i know i get a little too anxious sometimes on events that have not happened yet...have you found any ways to combat that? Also, I definitely consider myself to be mechanically insufficient...luckily, one of my buddies is extremely knowledgable on the topic and always gives me good, free advice. sometimes i feel like i learn more talking to my friends at a backyard barbecue than i do anywhere else...

I've found the best way to do something that you wanna do is bite the bullet...abandon all else...and pursue. I was in college...straight outta high school...graduated as close to the top of my class as you can get... everybody and their mother...and their father... :-) ... thought that I would be going to college and become a doctor or something lame like that. ...So, I did. I went to college...and hated every second of it. Not because the college life is lame...but, because it wasn't what I, myself, had chosen for me to do. I let others choose for me. One day, I said screw this...withdrew from UF, joined the Army. I'd like to say that I haven't looked back... and, well...I haven't really, and I hate the Army now... :-) ...but, I would have always wondered. Things always seem to work out for the best when you do exactly what you want to do. So...my advice is to just pursue something, without concerning yourself with the negatives. I know that is a totally brash and ill-advised way of doing something...but, life works itself out, always. ...and, yeah...I totally didn't even answer your question. Whatevs. Good luck. :-)

Semi_formal, that is a problem that has plagued most of us, being trapped in an event that has yet to happen, the worrying begins about all the different scenarios that might occur all the "What ifs". it's just useless mind chatter that serves no purpose. when this happens just be present, do what needs to be done at this present moment, bring presence into your life.
I also find that talking to friends will shed light on a problem or situation as they may see it from a different angle than you might.
I found that meditating with an audio that I created and with the use of my ipod has brought me to this level of inner peace. :)

For me, the best medicine is simplification.
People didn't always have all the choices that we have now, and somehow they managed. Sometimes, when you don't have many choices, you are happier because you are never afflicted with "grass is always greener" syndrome.
I am in no way advocating for more restrictions in anyone's life. But sometimes simpler is better.
After all, you could have just rolled down the window and enjoyed some fresh air.

Simplification is surely the way to go...look at the Buddhist monks what a life...they live a simple life with no attachments...and they're always happy :)
Semi...i'd be happy to share my meditation audio with you :)

...in return, i'm offering my affirmation of your simplication philosophy. I could forfeit multiple of examples of how that SAME philosophy has worked when applied to my life. I give your proposal a 5/5.
