| Downtown Dog Rescue Free Spay/Neuter Clinic

I had the priviledge of spending a few hours at this event in South Central yesterday.as a volunteer.
Over 100 dogs were spayed.
Many people showed up with 2,3,4 and even six dogs. The irony was it was not just pit bulls and scrappy dogs. Many people had dogs that I am sure came from some Puppy Mill via a pet store. Shitsus, poodles, dachsunds, boxers ect.... Interesting mix of people too. If every city put the same amount of resources that they spend on animal control and euthanisia toward free spay neueter clinics - we would have a lot less blood on our hands. As a nation we kill over 4,000,000 cats and dogs every year. In California that number is over 800,000 annualy. Senseless killing. I also find it ironic that many people can BUY a dog but lack the resources to pay for its medical care yet they are driving a new SUV. Two months ago I hapened to be at the Vets office next to YogaFit at 5 am after my pug and Pit got into a scuffle and there as a woman there with a Min Pin who had eaten some rat poison. She did not have the funds to pay for its treatment, fortunatly I was there with my credit card ( the dog would have died ) however she shared with me they bought the dog at a Pet Store and she had a new Nissan Armada in the parking lot........
Without judgement here I say, perhaps we should make people take a test before they buy a dog. Perhaps all Puppy Mills need to be shut down ASAP and dogs should become a commodity not a disposable item.
Please spay and neuter your pets - please encourage others to do the same.
Perhaps we need to al look at our priorities .......... what we are spending our funds on and how we really value living creatures ...... or not. Just thoughts ..........
