I would be remiss if I left out this blog, as you know its one of the first things I notice in a country.
Taipei is a large city crammed full of people. There are not a lot of dogs here but a few things have caught my attention.
The Britney Spears and Paris Hilton's of the world have made the "small dog accessory thing " in vogue. So a fair amount of Yorkies, Shitzus, Maltese and poodles dressed to the nines ( shoes included ) hanging onto their owners like purses. Apparently there is a BIG Problem now with people getting these " fashion accessories" and then ditching them when they grow up or when people realize having a dog is A LOT OF WORK.
So much of a problem that there are billboards that say Adopt Don't Buy, Spay and Neuter instead of Killing
Most dogs are not spayed or neutered here and most of the animal rights organizations are run by Ex Patriots- people from other countries now residing here in Taiwan.
Last night at the night market I saw two beautiful fox like looking dogs in cage for sale - very sad and reminds me that no matter where I go on the planet there are animals that need our voices, our help and our dedication.
Look in your own neighborhood and city - I am sure there is work to be done everywhere. Help them - the animals depend on us for their safety, security and population control - Something this planet could use more of as a whole.
