Ron Paul - Where do we go from here?
I'm a Ron Paul fan, voted for him tonight in the Iowa Caucuses.  Unfortunately, he was crushed in my ward (subdistrict of a precinct), here's how the voting roughly broke down:

Huckabee - 51
Romney - 45
McCain - 31
Thompson - 19
Paul - 10
Giuliani - 9

Fortunately, it turns out my ward was tougher on Dr. Paul than a majority of wards, with ~70% of the precincts reporting he is crushing Giuliani by about 5000 votes, and McCain and Thompson seem to be duking it out for 3rd & 4th places.

We had a poor speaker, very poor, but I'm not going to complain because hey, I could've spoke instead of that guy.  It's one of my beliefs that if you don't vote, you shouldn't bitch about the president.

Where does Ron Paul go from here?  Certainly getting 10% of Iowa is a statement, considering how relatively little he's been here.  But it's not victory, and I don't think he's going to get any delegates.  Actually I take that back.  We have 37 delegates to allocate (in my very rudimentary understanding, please please correct me if I'm wrong).  So that means you have to get at least around 3% of the vote to get a delegate, hey Ron Paul made that!  Heck, he might even get 3!

Enough sidebars, where is Ron Paul going from here?  I mean, we got a blimp, we got enough money to make Mr. Scrooge turn his head, and we got lots of fervent supporters (though not as fervent as Hillary and Obama supporters.  I saw them their supporters at intersections, jumping and down with signs taped to shovels.  No Ron Paul (or Republican for that matter) supporters on the streets like that).

I think we should fair better in New Hampshire, he seems to have more presense there, but still not at the Huckabee or Romney level.

What does Ron Paul have to do to get votes?  Maybe he's emphasizing the wrong things.  A Huckabee supporter tonight said "I want you to know a few things about Mike [Huckabee].  He has ALWAYS been pro-life.  He has ALWAYS supported 2nd amendment rights.  He has ALWAYS been conservative."  She basically said "Ron Paul.  Ron Paul.  Ron Paul!"

Why is Mike Huckabee so darn popular if he and Ron Paul both stand for a lot of the same things?  Eh, maybe I just don't understand a lot of the electorate out there, take a quote from a guy one of my friend's met in 2004.  This actually happened:

Friend: "Who are you voting for?"
Guy: "I'm voting for George W. Bush!"
Friend: "Why's that?"
Guy: "Because George Bush kicks ass!"
Friend: "...is that all?"
Guy: "Yup, he kicks ass!"

So if you're a Ron Paul supporter, I challenge you: what are YOU going to do in your state to further Paul's cause?  We don't have the luxury of coming 1st place in Iowa, so it's game time: we need a 1st place finish, in fact, a lot of them, to pull this Revolution off.

Go ahead, comment.  Constructively criticize what went "wrong" in Iowa, and what you're going to do to ensure that's NOT going to happen in your town!
