 Stopping Smoking!!!
I am trying to become a non-smoker after 42 years.   This is hard!   When I started smoking I was 18, everyone smoked.   I was training to be a nurse and there was an ashtray by every patients bed, including the heart ward.   Yell

People bought you 200 cigarettes as presents.   Posh cigarette lighters were given to people as celebratory gifts.   People would say "I'm sorry I don't smoke".

I think the point I am trying to make is that culturally smoking was acceptable, and expected everywhere you went when I was 18.   I know that culturally smoking is no longer acceptable, but I do get annoyed when government and complete strangers (especially strangers) tell me what a dirty habit it is, for everyone's information I do not smoke indoors or break our strict no smoking rules.   This is just people feeling that I want their opinons.   I want to smack them.   I don't smack them, but point out how patronising they're being because they seem to be totally unaware of what it was like when I started smoking.   Small moan over, but I suggest you remember that those of us who are smokers from the older generations are doing something that was totally socially acceptable when we first began.

Not smoking makes me bad tempered!!!!!!!!! then I moan.

Why I am trying to give up smoking (I have tried on numerous occassions before).

I want to see my grandchildren grow up

I want to have more money to spend on my grandchildren

GRANDCHILDREN they're a really good reason.

That's a very nice post... :)

although I do feel like swaying right or left incase you're gonna take a swing at me...lolol

I knew a guy who was trying to de-tox his system... so he went on these herbs and stuff.. very strict diet.. because apparently he had so much in his syste,... and he also had anger .. he was trying to control it.. but he was always in a bad mood... very nasty mood.. but ...BUT... at the end of the assigned weeks.. he was back to normal and feelign so much better for doing it...

So hang in there Bede... it will be tough in the begining...but hang in there you can do it.. and you will feel loads better once you beat it!

I hope it wont affect your relationship with you mom much... I know I get cranky when i am ill for example.. I dont have the energy to deal with thigns.. I have no patience.. so I get cranky with people... today even on the phone to my aunt.. I was impatient and my tone of voice raised a bit... I am hoping she didnt pay too much attention too it..

I did NOT know that it was encouraged years back... never knew that... wow.. this is very interesting to hear...

ok.. not that any of these ramblings are gonna make you feel any better... so ....

((((((((((((((HUGZ)))))))))))))))

I still love you.. even when you are cranky :)
(although your post was good tempered....dont worry)

You can do it,at least for your future grandchild. And i believe you can.Thought smoking is not a bad habit,as you say the age when smoking was socially acceptally has gone, give it up,not only for your future grandchild but also for yourself, your health.May god bless you.

Stay strong.
They say it takes 7 days to form a habit..and 7 days to break one.
Cough cough.
Good luck.
