For Di,
The Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the Moon Festival, it is thousands of years old. The Mid Autumn festival is a like our Harvest Festival, except that I believe in China it is an official holiday and lasts a couple of days. I think I have read somewhere that before the festival started a long, long time ago there was a rebellion against the Emporer and the rebels made cakes with messages in them so everyone would know when the uprising was to begin. So as well as being a celebration of the harvest it is also a reminder of the rebellion.
Friends and family get together and watch the moon while eating mooncakes and drinking tea. Mooncakes are for sharing because they have a dough like consistency so one person does not eat a whole one.
I will let you know what they taste like when my Mooncake arrives from Hong Kong. My son still hasn't sent mine. I understand there are different types.
I believe it is a Chinese tradition to plant autumn trees during the Autumn festival. I like that idea. The more trees in the world the better it will be.
I am very busy at the moment, so I quickly put this blog on so you know I haven't dropped off the blog.
My friend Q was sitting in a chair yesterday, her first time out of bed and she was challenging the doctors, so she is getting over her operation quite quickly. Keep the positive thoughts, prayers and good wishes going in her direction.
