Night comes – breathe silence
and lie still;
Let this charcoal pall cover
and swaddle you.
The day’s journey ends
in velvety purple twilight;
breathe low -
this end is sweet.
On soft flutter of raven’s wings
arrives darkness,
whispers ‘Nevermore’ and
settles, chilling.
The inken night comes,
enshrouding;
where once sighed lovers,
now silence reigns.
------
This one is a little less ‘graveyard poem’ and a little more moody blues ‘nights in white satin’. :o)

nice poem! I used to write poems too. Thanx for the comments on my blogs! They really help :) Actually, I wanted to tell you have you heard of Kris Wilson's comic strips?! They're "stick people" and they're hilarious! I saw them the other day and I just thought you'd like them too, since you're a "stick man" lol.

Being an English teacher, I really appreciate the Poe allusion in your poem....I give you a B+.
P.S. Wheedy (n)- an extremely lack-luster account of the sightings of a particularly nerdy English teacher with FAR too much time on her hands....

Raven's wings?
Swaddle?
This end is sweet?
Yes..I do believe you have stirred my soul.
You must have written those sentences already.
Referring to the detention sentece in your last poem.
You have a knack for these LOVE poems.

In looking through your poetry, I think they're each enchanting and enthralling, deep and dreamy.
This one makes me think of the song, "Night" by Robin Trower, but maybe because of the title name similarity.
