The youth hostel is based in a 16th century villa and easily reached by bus number 73 (90 on Sunday) from the train station. From the last bus stop where you have to get off, it is a 10min walk to the hostel.
The service in the hostel is very basic. Dormitories from 6 beds up and communal showers, female and male dorms are strictly separated and the rooms itself are simple. At the moment the rate is 17Euro, including a very little breakfast. Lockout from the rooms between 9am and 5pm, curfew is 12 midnight. That said, there is still a certain charm to the place. The villa dates to the 16th century and there is a big park at the back, where you can relax and have a picnic or just hang out. In the evening and when there are enough guests in the house, you can have a tasty homemade meal for 8Euros (a plate of pasta, a second plate with a meat or veggie dish, bread, water and a glass of local red wine). There is also a laundry, wash and dry for 5Euro.
Overall, it is a good base for budget travelers because it is the cheapest option to stay in Verona and just a 15 minute walk to the historic center.
Verona is annually staging operas in the old roman theater, really worth the money for those who are into Verdi and other famous Italian composers.
