| Problems in Family Sphere

So, I went home to visit and finally got to see a couple family memebers that decided that they should finally talk to us even though we are family. My uncle has gone through a great deal of hurt his wife kept coming into his life and then would leave for another man. Once that man decided not to support her financially she would come back. Sadly, my uncle would give her the benefit of doubt and take her back. This happened for a great deal of time and when she came back for the last time he told him to sign the house to her and sadly he did. After, that he got really into drinking, which happens to run in my family, where one drunken night he decided that the house he signed off to her he would destory it. Funny, because he took a hammer and tour up all the walls basically the inside of the house looks like he decide to remodel. But, now he lives in those ruins, drinks daily, and lost all will. It just saddens me that with every positive step he takes there happens to be greater setback that now he just doesn't want to do anything but drink and surpress his problems. My father and extended family have tried to help but now my father is the only one that still wants to help his brother while the rest of his sibilings have just say screw you. I know that people go through great hardships and tragedies, but I believe that you can overcome great obstacle. I guess I am wondering should you keep trying because some people have a great deal of pride when offering your help? Do people want to be help when they feel abandoned themselves? I know that you can only help people that want to help themselves. I know people can change but are there some that just prefer not too. I guess you can't help everyone.
