 As Told By Rebecca 6-27-08
Hey guys, sorry I didn't blog yesterday, I got "busy" and didn't feel like going online.
I'm probably ot going to be blogging everyday now that from June 30th on into August something, I'll be at camp from like, 8AM to 4:40PM so, y'know...
But that's not what I want to talk about today. What I want to talk about is the movie Mona Lisa Smile, one of the nine videos I brought back from Florida. Now, for those of you who haven't seen Mona Lisa Smile, RENT IT!!!
It's a very, very good movie about a women (Julia Roberts) who takes a job at Wellesley College as a professor in the Art History department. On her first day there, she attempts to teach the students (all girls) slides form the textbooks, but it turns out all of them have memorized the entire text, so the next day she stands herself up and shows them an array of slides contemplating what art is. How do you define good art? She proceeds to try to teach the girls that nothing has to fit a standard, including them. The Wellesley College girl standard is that they go to college, get their degrees and stuff, and then just get married and become housewives, and Julia tries to convince the girls that they can do better and go to college and become lawyers or do whatever they want and not have to fit that standard of intellectual slaves. It's really a good movie.
But the point is that you can do whatever you want to do with your life. Do what you want and don't look back, whether it's just eating an ice cream cone if you're on a diet, or standing on a mountain and singing a song that makes you feel really good. Just do it and don't regret what you've done, because if you felt the need to do it deep in your heart then there's nothing you can say to yourself to guilt yourself into what you've done.
And I'm not excluding criminal acts, cause kids, what's the definition of criminal?
Oh, yeah, I remember: not conforming to the standards set?

(That's what I thought, yo!),
