 Today's Bible Study: Genesis 1-3
Hello My Friend/Guest,

A Happy New Year to you! Today we begin our studies on the Bible starting with the book of Genesis. Each day is a lesson that allows you to read Scripture for 15 minutes a day so that you read the entire Bible in a year. What satisfaction it is to have read the entire Bible. All Scripture is taken from the King James Bible as the translation is word for word based on the original transcripts written in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. Those of you who have read my studies in the past will see a new format, I hope you enjoy the more personal feel toward the lesson. At the end of each lesson there will be a related Psalm, and prayer for the day. I want to wish you a very Happy and Healthy year filled with an abundance of blessings.

It is Janurary 1, 2008 and today we will begin our studies on the book of Genesis. Please read, Genesis 1-3. In today's reading you will learn about the creation of all things; the creation of Adam and Eve; the temptation by Satan; and Adam and Eve's rebellion against God which cause them to forfeit garden of Eden.

The book of Genesis is one of 5 books of law and was written by Moses to the people of Israel. The purpose of the book is to preserve the historical background of Israel and the record of creation, sin, redemption, and God's first dealings with man. What we learn from this book is that God's plan from the beginning included all nations and that God begins new things with people.

As we rerad through the first two chapter we will discover the creations of God and how the universe, life, man, marriage, death, and sin all began. You will learn that God is responsible for all things that are good. "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." (Genesis 1:1-5).

God created the earth in six days then rested on the seventh day, this is how the day of Sabbath began and is known as the first day of the week. "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made." (2:2-3)

God created mankind in His image and His likeness. He made us different from every animal that He created in that each of us is a triune being, meaning that we are a body, soul, and spirit. No animal has a spirit, a God consciousness, or is capable of worshiping God. Creation, as recorded in Genesis, is the testimony of the Creator God who made man in His own image. Man was made distinctly different from any animal in that God breathed into him the breath of life. "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil." (2:7-9).

When God saw that man should not be alone He created the animals and Eve. "And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man." (2:19-22)
Adam and Eve were created to enjoy fellowship with God. However, He also gave them the right to choose either to be their own god and do what they wanted to do or to live by simple faith in the one true God that created them. Obedience to God's Word will never disappoint us. However, Adam and Eve foolishly fell into the temptation of Satan who desguised himself as a serpant and chose to rely on their own human reasoning instead of relying on the Word of God. "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." (3:1-6)

Just as Adam and Eve's fellowship with God was dependent upon their obedience to what He had said, our fellowship with Him is also dependent upon our obedience to His Word. If we are to receive His blessing to enjoy life and to have it more abundantly, we will choose obedience to the Word of God which is the source of all that is good. Those who truly receive Christ as their personal Savior and Lord receive a new spiritual life, one of God's nature. Then His Holy Spirit will dwell in them and guide them into all the truth as they read and study the Sciptures.

The entire Bible is centered around one person and that is our Lord, Jesus Christ. In this lesson Christ is revealed as the Creator (Genesis 1:1; compare to John 1:1-4). and as the Seed (Descendant) of Woman. (Gen. 3:15; compare to Is. 7:14; 9:6-7)

Today's Psalm:
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." (Psalm 1:1-2)

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with a new day here on earth and thank you for the many blessings you give me each day. Lord, thank you for providing us a way to cleanse ourselves from the sinful nature we are born into. Today, I put my complete trust and faith in You, please forgive me of my sins and cleanse me from them. Walk with me, guide me, and be with me in all that I do. It is only when I am in Your presence am I able to overcome the temptaions of satan. Let this new year bring me closer to you as I learn and study Your Word. In Jesus' name, I pray.....Amen.

Have a wonderful day/night and God Bless you,
Christina
