 Going Solo
After I finished a stressful semester, I decided to enjoy myself by reading a novel. I went to Apple bookstore and I was unable to pick a book which would be the best since there was numerous. I closed my eyes and groped for a book in selling book section. The book I bought was a novel “Going Solo” by Roald Dahl, published in 1986. I finished reading the book in one week which was amazing reading speed to me since it had never happened before. I believe the author did a wonderful job. The book really attracted me. The contents and particulars of the novel drew me along. It told precisely about half of the author’s earlier life. Roald Dahl went to Africa from England to work for the Shell Oil Company. He adapted to live with native people easily. He was learning Swahili while he was working in Dar es Salaam. He had a friendly personal “boy” who was called Mdisho. What he had experienced while he visited a friend who was living in Tanganyika was being rescued from a poisonous snake, called Green Mamba. Accidentally, he became a pilot in order to fight for England during World War II in 1939. He was trained in just a few months. Toward the end of his training, he had an accident. While he had been treated in hospital, he fell in love with a nurse. Later on, he came back to the war and shot down many planes. He had to really fight for his life when he was notified that he couldn’t fly anymore. Finally, he went back to live with her mother when the war was end.
I really enjoyed reading this book but there was a lot of strange vocabulary which was old writing style and used by British speakers which I didn’t understand. I learned more about friendly African culture and society through his journal. Readers can imagine a marvelous Dar es Salaam harbor by the author’s description and attached picture which was taken by the author. Dar es Salaam has developed around its fine natural harbor. A dangerous Green Mamba snake was portrayed as a fast-moving tree-dwelling snake of Africa. I wished I could have a chance to live in Africa in order to live in the author’s experienced live. Through his book, I knew freedom was so important for humans. It was necessary to fight for the peace of the world even though nobody wanted to kill other people. The author was successful in expressing his passion of dedicating his life for a peace of the world. His story of set of events encourages people to never stopping hoping and believing about a beautiful future.
The author used a lot of adjectives and adverbs to write this book. The book features black-and-white photos, as well as maps, telegrams and other memorabilia. This book is a genuine evidence for me to believe that language can affect the imagination. Through literature, writers can leave a message in their artworks. The message of Roald Dahl is love. Love people, love lives, and love peace are the most significant things to know. Vitality of the Roald Dahl encourages reader to be more confident and persevering.

So this was a digital book?? Does that mean you have one of those Amazon.com pad things for reading ebooks? Imagine how different it would have been to have the actual 86 book:P Roald Dahl...man...that takes me back. I never saw an autobio though. He sounds like Snoopy in how he tackled being a fighter pilot and falling for nurses:P Dont ask me why if you dont see it:P
