Does intimacy with God have a price? Without a doubt, intimacy with God carries with it one of the highest price tags ever known to mankind. Here is what the Bible says about intimacy. "But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ, and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ - the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith." Philippians 3:7-9
What is the price of intimacy? It is nothing less than the loss of everything. It is Jesus Christ who is our primary and only true reward in life. We will and may gain secondary rewards in life that are nice and helpful in order to live our lives with a greater sense of belonging to this world, but there is no greater reward a man or woman could ever gain than the never ending, always present awesomeness of Jesus Christ Himself. All that we are and all that we hope to be is found and established in Him and His presence in our lives.
There is nothing greater that we could ever hope to achieve than true intimacy with our beloved Savior. Of course in order to loss something as important as our education, finances, self-worth and even family and friends is not to literally loose them or leave them behind, rather to allow Jesus Christ Himself to occupy the first place in our hearts. Intimacy with God is based upon lordship in our hearts. The Bible is showing us the importance of not letting the secondary issues of life become the primary issues. "For your loves is better than wine." Song of Solomon 1:2
Pursuing God is our passion in life and being established in the righteousness of Jesus Christ is our walk of faith. It is by grace which we are saved, through faith in Him and in His promises. It is by faith by which we live and move and have our being. It is by faith that we are able to pursue Him with our entire heart. The price of intimacy is the price of willfully loosing self in order to gain Him.
