 uncharacteristic good fortunes
So, rather incredibly - I may have found another job. In the most unexpected and roundabout way, but that’s how I roll. And even without Annaleis writing me a dodgy reference. (Though I am fond of the idea, I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.)

So, in a fit of desperation and frustration, I posted an ad on Gumtree, basically on my knees begging someone to give me a chance to file their files or enter their data. And lo and behold, I got two answers! My jaw hit the floor - I didn’t really think that anyone would paw through the ads for work wanted, I mean, how apathetic and lazy do you have to be to expect someeone to find you and offer you a job, rather than you find them and apply?

In any case, two replies. One was from a company that wanted someone to be based in Mallorca for the summer, and to work from there. Whilst this in theory is a BRILLIANT idea, the downside is you only get paid €600 a month, you have to pay for your flights there, and you’re working nine hours a day, six days a week...plus there is that whole threat of it being a major scam and me ending up in the boot of someone’s car, with a plastic bag over my head. So that’s sort of filed in the ‘maybe’ pile. (It’s a big pile right now.) The other reply was much more promising, in that it didn’t offer to fly me anywhere on the Iberian peninsula, and instead was far more nondescript - a guy with a company that offers cycling tours of Scotland is looking for someone to help him out in the office. Score! So in a flurry of keyboard strokes, having realised I have no credit because I spent it all on a phonecall to Canberra, I write back saying I’m interested, and that I’m sorry I can’t call because I am skint. (I didn’t actually say that.) So he called me last night, and we chatted for a while, and he’s going to drop by while I’m at work tomorrow (ha ha! courting new employment right under Marina’s nose!) so we can meet, and hopefully arrange an interview for Sunday.

It was totally out of left field, I didn’t see it coming at all. Sounds very promising though, so my fingers are crossed that by the end of next week, I can ditch the cafe shit and vow never to work in hospitality again.

In other news, I move to Budget this afternoon. I’ve got two beds until Monday - how novel. This is a real change from the distinct possibility of having no bed. I’m going to move all my stuff of the course of the next four days, which is again a change from being packed up like a mule and shuffling across Edinburgh, cursing everyone that ever lived.

Some dude in the internet cafe just told the guy behind the counter that he’s no good at the internet and doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s clearly in his twenties. How can you be no good at the internet unless you’re a Mongolian cattle raider living on the side of a mountain in a yurt?

haha, yurts. I love you dearly, Emma.

I went out last night for some Scottish music at a tiny little pub on Forrest Road, with Francesca and her crazy work mates, which was fun. I don’t really recall hearing very much Scottish music though, the band was kind of secreted away in a corner, exiling it’s members one by one. First one was a violinist, she was really brilliant, but seemed very lonely. I like Francesca’s work mates...they’re hilarious.

Anyway, leaving now. Parental unit, rest assured, I’ve returned to a rational frame of mind.
