 re-employment
So, it’s either Tuesday or Wednesday...ah, the little calendar tells me it’s Wednesday. What the hell happened to my Tuesday? Clearly I wasn’t paying attention.

So, now I’ve been in Edinburgh for a week, hard to believe! The weather has finally come to play, as well - it cleared up last night around eight o’clock, so I went and got a little snap happy. Then, today, it’s even nicer, so I’ve been going a little nuts again. I have the slight problem of not really having anywhere to burn all my photos to CD without it costing the earth, so I’ve only got room for about 45 more, but I’m sure I’ll figure something out. I realise I should have done something with all my Scotland pics before I left the Levis, but I’m not so great at foresight.

The good news is that it looks like I’ve got a job. I started job hunting in earnest on Friday, so I guess I can’t really complain about the turnaround - apart from the fact that the two jobs I got offered were both ones that I cold-canvassed yesterday. The first one was in a sort of Thai/Indonesian/African related gift place - actually a really sweet shop, I would have been happy to hawk their wares. The thing about it was that it was part time, but I figured I wasn’t really in a position to be fussy. (£40 kinda position not to be fussy.) I just wandered in, handed over my CV, chatted to the dude for about ten minutes, and he as good as gave me the job. Although, the phone rang at one point, and he told me that it was someone else expressing interest, so I should make my mind up soon and get my act together. I was kinda surprised, he had only just met me, not read my CV or anything, and then was turning down other people because of me. (I have my doubts about there being masses of people knocking down his door...he was far far far too keen...unless he was just a creepy old man.) So I told him I was interested, except that I had to get my shit together re: NI number, and left. It rained.

(Some chick in the internet cafe is trying to bargain with the scary lady and pay with Euros instead of pounds. I admire her gall, I’m convinced this woman would eat me if I dared anything like that.)

So, right, anyway, after much thought and consideration, I decided it was a poor idea to take the part time job, seeing as at best, they could only offer around 14 hours a week. Unfortunately, seeing as Centrelink won’t pay my rent, 14 hours just isn’t enough, especially if I want to live above the poverty line and eventually be able to pay for further travels. So i decided to continue with the cold-canvassing, and popped into a cafe further up the street. Seemed nice, relatively cosy, all good like that. That was the last CV I had (they cost me a pound each to print out, I have to be a little picky), so I just cruised around for the rest of the day. Eventually I got onto Ambo who told me all the things I wanted to hear about turning down the job and then living off my credit card, so I went to bed happy that the next day I would say no to the scary Italian man in the cool store.

So, this morning, I missed a call from the owner of the cafe, but she left a message asking me to come in for a trial. Way chuffed! I went in this morning, had a chat to her, she seemed nice, and the job seemed easy - basically back to what I was doing for the past four years. I don’t know exactly how pleased I am at the prospect of returning to hospitality, but I guess you do what you have to…

So, anyway, I shouldn’t be wasting a stunning day by being inside on the internet...hope you’re all sufficiently up to date. More when I do something of interest.

much love
x
